The Bachelorette, Charity Lawson, faced some serious backlash following her unexpected first rose pick in the premiere episode of Season 20. The leading lady faced some serious questioning over her decision-making as the Bachelorette, but Charity defends her choice in the first episode of the season.
In the Bachelorette premiere, Charity chose the ‘villain’ of the season, Josh, as her first rose recipient, leaving fans divided over her choice. Despite the fact that Josh is known for his controversial nature, Charity Lawson stands firm in her belief that she made the right decision.
“I’m a little surprised,” Charity admits when host Chris Harrison asks her about the backlash surrounding her choice. “Because I have so much conviction in this decision, and I am so excited to share with you why.”
The Bachelorette then explains the thought process behind her surprising first rose pick, leading to further questioning from Chris Harrison.
“I wasn’t expecting for someone to be there for the wrong reasons,” Charity explains. “I don’t understand why that would be a thing. I think that Josh actually wants to fall in love, and I think he’s genuine.”
Charity also addresses why she was so “disappointed” in the other contestants’ reactions.
“I was disappointed because I didn’t expect to be questioned,” she continues. “I had my reasons for why I gave him the first rose, and I felt like I needed to share that with them.”
