Amazon Prime Day

The ante has been upped: Amazon Prime Day is finally here, and it’s going to have a lot of video game deals. Since its humble beginnings, Amazon’s annual sale has grown and evolved alongside the global e-tail behemoth. This year, however, it’s bringing some of the best game deals around.

PlayStation Games on Amazon Prime Day

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a real treat for fans of JRPGs. Originally released only in Japan, this revamped version is now available worldwide. Like a Dragon ups the typical Hyperdimension Neptunia style of parody with a setting based on Sengoku Japan, with a dash of Demon’s Souls. Like a Dragon also employs an indirect control system, more similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which makes it stand out as a fresh and unique game in an increasingly saturated genre. This game’s sales are only available to Amazon Prime members, but don’t worry if you’re not subscribed – you can try Prime for free for 30 days.

Persona 5 Royal is the definitive edition of the award-winning RPG. While its story is similar to the original, it expands upon gameplay features introduced in Persona 5, featuring a new Last Resort Technique which changes the outcome of battles in various ways. There’s also new Mementos quests, the ability to swap between the original and re-arranged soundtracks, and enhanced controls. If you like the look of Royal, there’s a nice 31% discount available, making it your go-to special edition.

Next up we have Soul Hackers 2, a Japan-exclusive follow-up to 2014’s Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. The game supplements the original Shin Megami Tensei: TRANSLATION game with an expansion set in the cyberpunk world of Megami Tensei. It’s an incredible roguelike that explores the morality of a complicated war and employs a unique trust system which dictates which characters may accompany you on your journey. If you missed out on the first game, there’s a considerable 35% discount on Soul Hackers 2.

It doesn’t stop there, of course. PlayStation games like Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Persona 5 Royal, and Soul Hackers 2 have fantastic discounts available. If you’ve ever wanted to step into the colorful world of Sonic, Sonic Colors Ultimate enhances the original game with what we considered to be the best aspect of Sonic Generations, namely upscaled visuals and a variety of new features and characters. Sonic Frontiers lets you explore an open world as Sonic for the first time in the series. While that’s not exactly a niche genre, let alone specific game, we have never had such a wide range of those games for sale for quite this long, so if you’ve been waiting for a deal, here it is.

If you only play one roguelike, it should be Aionios. This spiritual successor to Tokyo Shin-šōku: Model X is the second game in the Keves & Agnus series. The war between Keves and Agnus rages on as the series moves from 2D and into 3D, bringing a new style of turn-based RPG combat never before achieved. Aionios is the ultimate appetizer for the third game in that series, which releases later this year.

JRPG fans who aren’t turned away by the cult-like atmosphere of Cult of the Lamb, which sees you build and run your own cult as you explore a roguelike landscape and encounter strange characters along the way. With less than an hour to go, there’s a 20% discount on this cult classic, which our Cult of the Lamb review describes as being a “great game for those who want to slowly uncover its mysteries without many tutorials and hand-holding”.

Celeste, one of the year’s standout platformers, sees you ascending a mountain, fighting suicidal thoughts along the way. The narrative
