Final Fantasy XVI Necrophobe boss

The Final Fantasy XVI Necrophobe boss is unnerving and tricky. This late-game foe returns in FF16 with mastery over multiple elements. It has some familiar moves from its Final Fantasy 5 counterpart, but Necrophobe has evolved to baffle, disorient, and challenge the most seasoned of players in the RPG game.

Overview of Attacks and Phases

To overcome this boss, here is an overview of its attacks, phases, and strategy recommendations.

Final Fantasy XVI Necrophobe boss fight details

To beat Necrophobe in Final Fantasy XVI, you need to learn and recognize its various attacks, stay calm, pay attention, and have a charged up Extractor.

The boss fight against Necrophobe is split into four distinct phases.

Necrophobe phase 1

During its first phase, you need to be careful of its melee attacks, as well as any transitions from single-casting to Dualcasting its spells:

Thanks to its flighty nature, you might find some abilities – those that require charging, for example – are less effective against it. In any case, learn about these attacks and pay attention to what’s happening in-game during the fight.

You should also time dodges and counters carefully so you don't take damage from these attacks.

Necrophobe phases 2 and 3

In phases 2 and 3, Necrophobe throws another element into its mix of attack moves. Phase 2 sees it use Blast BWAH followed by the Burst Light attack which it uses against Gilgamesh earlier in the Golden Saucer quest.

During Elemental Dissonance, Necrophobe gains new attacks, including Sword Combo, Firaga, Blizzaga, Dualcast: Firaga, Dualcast: Blizzaga, Enfiraga, Enblizzaga, and Enthundaga. However, the battle can get trickier, so try to push its Stagger gauge over the threshold so you can interrupt its En-spell combo. That way, you can avoid its trickiest move – Enthundaga.

Necrophobe phase 4

During the end phase, Necrophobe uses its normal En-magic move and then spends the rest of the battle using Helix 2 and 3. You won’t need to use the Concentration ability here, as all of its attacks are consistent.

The RPG boss will be all done in no time when you apply the same strategies from the first three phases.
