Will Final Fantasy XVI be coming to Xbox? The next installment of the iconic JRPG franchise is undoubtedly one of gamings greatest, and anticipation is high to see whether Square Enix will expand its availability beyond the PlayStation 5.

Given Final Fantasy XVI’s deep ties to PlayStation consoles, a traditional release on Microsoft’s platform may seem unlikely. However, there are reasons to believe that Final Fantasy XVI will make its way to Xbox in addition to Sony’s next-gen console. With so many classic Final Fantasy games absent from Xbox, it’s easy to imagine the next chapter in the franchise arriving on Microsoft’s platform.

Will Final Fantasy XVI be on PC?

While we eagerly await official announcements from Square Enix, here are some reasons why we think Final Fantasy XVI could come to Xbox and PC:

  • Historically, the Final Fantasy franchise has been closely associated with PlayStation consoles, with many mainline entries being exclusive to Sony’s platforms. However, within recent years, Square Enix has shown a willingness to broaden the availability of their games, with titles like Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XIV finding success on Xbox and PC.
  • The growing popularity of Xbox Game Pass and the increasing demand for cross-platform play mean that Square Enix may be looking to radically expand its release plans. Final Fantasy XIV has also shown that Microsoft gamers can appreciate quality JRPGs, and the Creative Business Unit III team behind Final Fantasy XVI has experience with the successful release of XIV on Xbox and PC.
  • Square Enix is leading a charge to promote the Final Fantasy XVI official website, which includes a section for “Platforms.” It’s easy to dismiss this as boilerplate marketing (e.g. see how Assassin’s Creed Alchemist, a purely single-player game, lists Xbox in its platforms section), but the rarity of additional announcements may suggest otherwise.

The official Final Fantasy twitter account shared the above gif, ostensibly for platforms — even if those platforms are exclusively PlayStation 5. We’ll need to wait to hear from Square Enix, but Xbox and PC players who are eager to dive into the next chapter of their story won’t have to look far.

In the meantime, console players should check out what Final Fantasy XVI looks like on PlayStation 5. With so much time spent in this world, it’s easy to fall in love with its stunning graphics, immersive world, and engaging story.
