The Death of Donquixote Mjosgard in One Piece

The sudden death of Donquixote Mjosgard came as a big surprise to readers of the Manga, leaving many questions unanswered. We certainly didn’t expect a member of the Donquixote Family to turn against their own, particularly one who underwent a change of heart thanks to the efforts of the late Queen Otohime. In a recent chapter, explains how this change of heart ultimately led to Mjosgard’s execution, with authority in One Piece firmly resting in the hands of the Celestial Dragons.

The Transformation of Mjosgard

While many of the Celestial Dragons are immoral monsters, Mjosgard was an exception among his fellows, with his actions during the Reverie arc serving as an example of how even the descendants of the twenty kings who formed the World Government can undergo change.

During the Reverie arc, Charlos, a Celestial Dragon, attempted to enslave Shirahoshi, the mermaid princess from Fish-Man Island who is also known as Princess Fish-Man.

After Shirahoshi managed to escape from her would-be captor, she found herself cornered by Charlos. Thankfully, one of her family’s greatest enemies showed up to save the day – Donquixote Mjosgard, otherwise known as Dadan.

Mjosgard's Sacrifice

Dough-Dadan, as the long-time comrades are affectionately known, struck Charlos with a club, saving Shirahoshi from a terrible fate. Unfortunately for Donquixote Mjosgard, he would later wind up on the receiving end of the cursed Hobi Hobi no Mi, the Devil Fruit of exchanging places.

During the aftermath of the Reverie, Shirahoshi was once again attacked, this time by Bartholomew Kuma, a former ally of the Ryugu Kingdom who was turned into a mindless slave by the authority of the World Government.

Kuma was hell-bent on Thatch’s Plateau, determined to attack Shirahoshi at all costs. Thankfully, Dough-Dadan once again stepped in, allowing Sai to strike down Charlos and stopping Kuma with the help of Morley. For his final sacrifice, Donquixote Mjosgard was executed by St. Figarland Garling, the supreme commander of the Holy Knights.

A Bleak Warning

This serves as a rather bleak warning to other Celestial Dragons about the consequences for turning against each other or causing harm to their own. The fact that Charlos survived the attack and Mjosgard didn’t makes his death even sadder, particularly considering he survived the blindage regarding the enslavement of Shirahoshi.

At the time, it was unclear whether Doflamingo and Mjosgard ever really got on, but Doflamingo is currently locked up in Impel Down after his failed attempt to kill the king of Dressrosa. The future actions of Doflamingo, once he learns of Mjosgard’s death, remain a mystery.
