One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 adds Gear 5 Luffy to its roster
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is adding Gear 5 Luffy to its roster, marking the Anime’s biggest power-up in the series’ history making its debut in a One Piece game. The character packs were announced through a new trailer on One Piece Day, which also included news for the series itself.
Bandai Namco announced three new character packs, with the first one including Gear 5 Luffy. The news comes as the anime is reaching the arc where Gear 5 is introduced.
The trailer (below) also reveals Luffy’s transformation into Gear 5 and gives a glimpse at his in-game render. According to Famitsu, however, the character can only be controlled in Gear 5 during a special move.
The first character pack will also feature two unannounced characters, while the other two packs will include Gold D. Roger and Uta. The DLC will be released starting in September.
This marks a significant addition to the game’s roster of playable characters, which already includes over 20 characters from the series. The character art suggests that Gear 5 Luffy may not be fully playable and may only be available during battles, which may actually be a smart move by Bandai Namco to avoid balancing issues.
The news comes as the anime is set to enter the Onigashima Battle of the Wano arc, which the game’s latest update launched with the final chapter of the anime’s version of the Dressrosa saga.
Fans are already hyped to see Luffy’s powerful form in action, and this update adds even more excitement to the game, which continues to receive updates and DLC three years after its initial release.
