The Last of Us showrunner teases finding Abby actor for season 2
The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin teases that they may already have found the actor to play Abby in the second season of the hit show. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin discusses the production halt on the show due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, and mentions that they were in the process of casting Abby before the strike occurred.
“We’re still waiting for the strike to be resolved,” Mazin says. “I think there’s some sense of urgency to get the show back up and running because it’s a show that people love, and we’re eager to get back to work on it.”
“We’ve had a good track record of making surprising cast announcements,” he continues. “People may have doubts about our choice, but we believe we got it right so far, so I would expect that announcement [for Abby] to come when we get back to work.”
Given that the announcement of the actor playing Abby is not expected to be made until a deal is reached and production resumes, it’s possible that fans may be waiting a while to find out who will be playing the iconic character. Given the toxic behaviour of some fans towards previous castings, however, it’s probably a good idea for the actor for Abby to delete their social media.
The Last of Us fans have previously sent death threats to actors involved in the characters they dislike, with previous main characters Tess and Ellie both the subject of heated and sometimes violent debate among fans. Hopefully the creators of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, will give the chosen actor for Abby fair warning and support.
The Last of Us has been a huge topic of conversation lately, with several films also in the works and the series set to appear on Nintendo Switch. While there is no official release date yet for the second season, we hope it’s sooner rather than later.
