Crimson Desert's Gamescom Opening Night Live Trailer
Crimson Desert's Gamescom Opening Night Live trailer steals the show with a thrilling blend of mechanics from various blockbuster games that are sure to make MMORPG fans thirsty for more. From an immersive world with immersive details like menuless quest boards and the ability to carry sheep over your shoulder to vast and beautiful environments and impressive boss fights, the trailer hints at a less grind-heavy experience that fans of games like The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 will find appealing.
What's even more impressive than the breadth of content shown in the trailer is the developer's experience with Black Desert Online, which is often cited as one of the most grind-heavy MMORPGs. From beautiful, realistic reflections in puddles to detailed armor on NPCs, the game's graphics are impressive. Horse mechanics like drifting and cantering are also borrowed from Black Desert Online and are sure to be improved in the new engine.
The draw distance is vast, showing off mountains and a colorful enemy camp visible in the distance. Immersive details, such as menuless quest boards and the ability to carry sheep over your shoulder, add to the world's charm. Developer Pearl Abyss also aims to create a world in which players can interact with all sorts of objects, petting animals, playing instruments, and climbing trees.
Traversal options also look impressive, with horses, parkour, a hot air balloon, and a morph-form that turns you into a crow creature. The trailer suggests the possibility of cooking and fishing mechanics similar to what's in Black Desert Online, but we'll have to wait and see.
The trailer also starts to grow in spectacle, with a tag-team of a robot and a fire-breathing dragon taking on the player. Later, a Reed Devil dancing in the grass adds to the fantastical elements of the game. The trailer also hints at a new area with some sort of environmental puzzles and trials.
Boss fights grow in spectacle, starting with a giant elephant and later featuring a tag-team of a robot and a fire-breathing dragon. The trailer also hints at new mounts and weapons for combat.
Crimson Desert is a single-player game, meaning that those who want to experience the world alone can do so. Those interested in a more social experience can take part in dynamic events and co-op dungeons.
The game is set to release in 2023 on PC and is available for pre-order.
