How to Find the Mantis Shrimp Boss in Dave the Diver
You can find Mantis Shrimp in Dave the Diver once you unlock the Marinca app by progressing in the main story. Make sure to meet the NPC named Sato, who’s at the pier in Marinca. Sato will inform you about a rare boss sighted in the waters.
You can dive on a stormy night, which occurs randomly but more frequently at night, to find the boss. The first time you dive on a stormy night, you’ll face a boss called Truck Hermit Crab. The second time is when Mantis Shrimp appears.
You can only dive at nighttime to find a boss, and each dive will deduct one-third of the time you can spend at the restaurant. This means you’ll earn lesser earnings for that day. However, you can find portable oxygen tanks in yellow chests if you’re lucky.
How to Find Mantis Shrimp’s Location
To find Mantis Shrimp, you’ll need to search for a white vortex that can spawn at depths between zero to 50. The boss battle with Mantis Shrimp is quite difficult, so you’ll need heavy artillery. Don’t expect brute force to work, as the boss blocks its eyes with gloves.
When the boss reveals its eyes for a few seconds, you can deal damage. The boss reveals its eyes when it throws a charged punch with its left hand. Mantis Shrimp remains still when it performs this attack, providing you with an opportunity to hit its eyes.
Position yourself on the left side of the battlefield just below the boss to avoid its punches. Quickly hit its eye when it’s exposed.
Mantis Shrimp uses its right arm for attacks. You can avoid these attacks if you swim at a height of about three parts of the battlefield. However, don’t get too close to the ceiling, as the boss can slam you into it.
Additionally, a lever appears on the top-left side of the battlefield during the fight. After hitting the boss in the eye, it performs an attack and the lever appears. You can swim to the lever to pull it down quickly. However, you’ll have to avoid spikes on the left wall.
Staying as far left as possible, swim to the lever to pull it down successfully. If you take too much time, the lever will disappear and you’ll be pushed back into the spikes, causing damage. Once you pull the lever down, the boss is vulnerable for a few seconds, so you can hit its eyes again.
This cycle repeats until the boss is defeated. You’ll have to avoid attacks that can slam you into the ceiling and deplete your oxygen. For example, the boss will raise its right arm and pull back for a few seconds before throwing a charged punch with its left hand.
The final attack of Mantis Shrimp involves throwing spiked balls. You can avoid these balls by swimming to the left side of the battlefield. The balls will drop on the ground and explode after a few seconds.
Using a weapon like the Sniper Rifle is highly recommended for this fight, as you can deal heavy damage from a distance. If you don’t have enough money to buy the weapon, you can save up at the end of the day by not visiting the restaurant.
After defeating Mantis Shrimp, you can harvest its meat, which unlocks a new recipe called Boiled Mantis Shrimp With Soy Paste. This recipe requires one Artisan’s Flame to learn and can be served to multiple people. However, you won’t obtain it again after using the flame.
