Exoprimal: A Missed Opportunity for Crossplay Party Play

Exoprimal’s Crossplay setup offers the opportunity to face off against your friends across platforms, but there’s a major catch. While you can kill dinosaurs together on PC and consoles, you won’t be able to form a party with friends playing on different platforms. PC, Steam, and PC Game Pass players can all go against each other in competitive play, but there’s no way to play together with friends who are on different platforms.

It’s a strange setup that feels like a missed opportunity. While the inability to party up with friends is understandable, given that different platforms use different friend systems and invites, it would be nice to be able to face off against friends on other platforms in PvE as well.

We had hoped that this was a limitation that Capcom would address, but it looks like it’s here to stay. Even if you’re playing Exoprimal on Steam, you won’t be able to group up with PC Game Pass players – despite both being on PC. It’s possible that this is a limitation that Capcom will address in the future, but for now, it’s a dealbreaker for those of us who want to play with our friends.

You can check out Exoprimal’s crossplay setup in the tweet below.

While Capcom’s tweet doesn’t offer much detail, it does mention that there is no party creation crossplay “on day one.” We’ll keep our fingers crossed that this feature comes shortly after the game’s launch, but for now, it’s best to know that your friends on PC and consoles won’t be able to join you in Exoprimal.

There’s also another catch when it comes to crossplay in Exoprimal – it currently only works for matchmaking, not for playing with friends. If you want to play with friends on consoles, you’ll have to play on consoles. Same goes for PC and Steam, but at least it can be done through the game’s multiplayer lobbies.

If you’re on PC, you’ll have to play with friends on PC. If you’re on a console, you’ll have to play with friends on a console. It’s a bummer, but at least you and your friends will be able to team up in cooperative gameplay.

While this setup is disappointing, it isn’t surprising. Considering that Capcom’s new PC game service PC Game Pass is also on PC, it makes sense that the developer would treat these platforms as separate ecosystems.

In the end, Exoprimal’s crossplay offers you the opportunity to face off against players on other platforms, but it also highlights the shortcomings of each platform’s friend system. If you’re playing on Steam, you could find yourself competing against players on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Again, this is something that we could see Capcom address in the future, but for now, it’s something to be aware of if you’re playing on Valve’s platform.
