Magic: The Gathering's Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Booster Boxes Experience Value Drop

The value of Magic: The Gathering's Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth booster boxes has plummeted nearly $100 since the discovery of the serialised One Ring card. This card has gained mainstream attention, causing the market to overreact. Although the drop isn't as steep as predicted earlier, it seems the market is starting to recognize the value of the remaining set's contents.

On June 6, the One Ring was found in Whitby, Canada, ending the search and disappointing those hoping to make millions from the card. While the news was significant and initially caused an increase in value, it appears that the market is now reacting.

Redditor alexstam123456789 notes that the market value of the Lord of the Rings Collector booster boxes has decreased since the discovery.

“I’m a bit of a collector, so I was watching the prices of the LoTR TCG Collector Boxes and noticed they’ve been going down since the One Ring was found,” they write. “It’s not a huge drop, but it’s a consistent downward trend.”

They linked to TCGplayer’s chart, which compares the value of the Collector booster box before and after the One Ring was found. Previously, the box was valued at $478.69, but has seen a steady decrease since June 6, and is now listed at $391.55. However, the box has seen some fluctuation, and is currently listed at $401.63.

Several factors likely contribute to the continued sales and value of the boxes. Although the One Ring is a one-of-a-kind card, the inclusion of the serialised Sol Rings in Collector boosters may make the box more enticing, despite the rare card's removal. Additionally, the rarer foil versions of the Sol Rings are still selling for thousands of dollars, so the cards will likely continue to sell well despite the drop.

While the value has decreased, it appears the boxes are still selling relatively well, just not as well as when they had the potential to be worth $2 million.
