Nintendo Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct
First up, the Nintendo Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct will air on August 31 at 10am ET, which is the same day as the Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin summit in Helsinki. The presentation will last for approximately 15 minutes, and you’ll be able to watch it on the official Nintendo YouTube channel and website.
We got our first look at Super Mario Bros. Wonder during Nintendo’s June 21 Direct, but the game has been shrouded in rumors, leaks, and speculation ever since. Fans have been dissecting the trailer and footage for clues and easter eggs, and we’ve even heard that Super Mario Bros. Wonder may be set in the world of Mario Kart: Renegade.
The latest trailer references the anime tie-in movie Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!, and it heavily teases Daisy’s debut in a mainline game. We also know that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is ditching the ‘New’ style of previous games, and it appears to be going for a more retro look.
We’ve also got news on the voice actor for Mario, as Charles Martinet has officially retired from the role. We also learned that Daisy will be getting a new voice actor, although we don’t know which well-known voice actress has landed the role just yet.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will also feature the return of the Flower Kingdom, a level that made its debut in Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s sister game Super Mario Bros. Wonder Queen Bee. The trailer showcases a level called “Welcome to the Flower Kingdom!”, which appears to be a hub world similar to the Toad Town of past games.
While some fans may be disappointed to see Nintendo return to the Flower Kingdom, it looks absolutely stunning in the upcoming platformer. Keep an eye on the official Super Mario Bros. website, as we expect to hear more about the game in the coming weeks.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder releases on October 20, the same day as the highly anticipated Spider-Man 2. We’ve also got the reveal of a new 2D Sonic game called Superstars, which launches three days before Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Speaking of highly anticipated, October is looking packed with some of the best game releases this year. Mario and Sonic’s platformer rivalry will be reignited during this time, and there’s so much to keep an eye on during the month of October.
