Liverpool star Diogo Jota's Love for Esports and Gaming

Liverpool star Diogo Jota has revealed he is an avid gamer as the Reds prepare for the new season. Jota has also spoken about his Esports team, which has recently rebranded and is now partnered with Galaxy Racer.

In an interview with Jota’s ‘home’ club Liverpool FC’s matchday magazine, the Reds’ No.10 discusses his love for gaming and how he switches off from football by playing titles such as Apex Legends, CS:GO, and Rainbow Six.

Jota’s esports team, Diogo Jota Esports, has rebranded to Luna Galaxy, partnering with Dubai-based esports organization Galaxy Racer. The team includes fellow Liverpool player Sadio Mané, and Jota has spoken about the project in detail.

“We started a project with Galaxy Racer, where I became a shareholder, and we created Luna Galaxy, which is a new brand under Galaxy Racer,” Jota explains. “It’s a great organisation, and I’m very happy to be part of it.”

In terms of his teammates’ reactions to his gaming, Jota says he has been “beaten a few times,” but that the rest of the Reds are not overly keen on playing him in FIFA. Despite this, he is confident in his success in the popular football game, as his unconventional playstyle often catches out opponents.

“I like to do things that people don’t expect,” Jota explains, as he talks about his FIFA success and how he often uses the left stick to pull off moves. “That’s why I always surprise my opponents, and that’s why I win so many games in FIFA.”

This unorthodox style has been on display in FIFA 23, as Jota’s celebration after scoring against Aston Villa made it into the game. The Reds’ No.10 is also experimenting with neuro11 hairnets, which Liverpool players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold use for data-based training, in the hopes of gaining an esports-based advantage.

Jota’s partnership with Galaxy Racer represents a new chapter in his esports journey, as he becomes a shareholder and helps to create Luna Galaxy. Galaxy Racer CEO Paul Roy praises the Liverpool player’s involvement, saying, “Diogo’s passion for esports is clear, and he has taken a big leap of faith in becoming a shareholder and creating Luna Galaxy with us.”

Roy goes on to explain that Galaxy Racer started as a company focused on women’s esports, before expanding into male teams, lifestyle brands, and game developers. He believes that their new title will be “the next big esports,” and the collaboration with Jota represents both parties “trying something new.”

Jota is certainly not shy when it comes to expanding his esports repertoire, and he has also recently started playing Rocket League and Dota 2. The Reds’ No.10 admits that he is nervous about his focus on esports not impacting his performances on the football pitch, but he is optimistic about Liverpool’s upcoming season.

“I’m very confident that we’re going to have a great year,” Jota says, as he talks about his hopes for the team’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
