A heartwarming response in the Halo esports Discord

A user reminisces about their Halo-loving brother’s friends who would come over and play the FPS game when they were younger, only to discover years later that they were still playing it – and that one of them had even become a pro gamer. “I feel so old when I speak to them now,” they say. But their comment is met with warm, funny responses from the Halo Esports team, who reflect on their own moments of nostalgia and reassure the original poster that age isn’t something to be ashamed of.

“Halo has been around forever,” one user responds, referencing the fact that the Master Chief Collection is available on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, meaning the game is essentially playable on two generations of console. “We have been playing the same console since 2012,” another jokes, referencing the existence of the MCC.

“I’m so old I… don’t even know what to say,” someone else says. “I’m not old,” another responds. “Just older.” “Old is just someone you don’t know well yet,” a third person replies.

“I’m finding it increasingly difficult to balance friendships with my demanding job,” another user writes. “I’m really sorry to hear that,” someone replies. “I really miss my gaming buddies,” another adds. “I miss the joy I used to have when I was a kid playing games. I used to be so passionate about games, but that slowly dissipated as I grew older.”

“It’s tough when you start to realise that time is something you can’t get back and the stress of real life starts to outweigh the fun you used to have,” another replies. “I feel like I’m not supposed to have to grow up… I’m supposed to go to school, play games all day, and then become a billionaire before I’m 30.”

“The best part of getting older is reconnecting with an old gaming friend after many years,” someone says. “That feels special,” another replies.

“I have a lot of friends in my daily life but none in gaming,” another writes. “Yeah, how does that even work?” another replies. “I feel like I’ve just been wasting my life if I don’t have friends in gaming,” another says.

“When my kids grew up and gaming on their own, I felt like I was completely disconnected from their lives,” another writes. “That was the most surreal thing – I was still there, but I was completely absent from their gaming world.”

“Sometimes it’s hard to find time to game as responsibilities increase,” another says. “I think losing touch with gaming friends is painful for both parties because you used to have fun together and you are both still interested in the same thing.”

“I’m glad to have found a community of people who don’t judge me for playing old consoles,” another says. “I always jump back into gaming with old friends,” another replies. “It’s been a while since I played with you,” another says to the original poster. “I hope you’re doing well, I really miss you.”

“I made a Discord server with all my friends so we can stay connected,” another says. “I’m going to start playing Halo again, do you want to join?”
