The arrival of Warhammer 40,000 10th edition has seen the release of all the rules for free, allowing players to see exactly how powerful each army is in the new edition. While many armies have powerful units and options, the Adeptus Mechanicus are feeling the sting of the nerfs as a whole army codex. The Adeptus Mechanicus are the engineers of the Emperor, working alongside the Space Marines to create titans, tanks, and other powerful war machines. Without the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Space Marines would have no equipment on which to battle.

On the tabletop, the Adeptus Mechanicus are portrayed as robots, with footsoldiers, mechs, horses, and pilots. Many players use the Adeptus Mechanicus miniatures range as a base for their own creative conversions and unique army setups.

Historically, the Adeptus Mechanicus army has never been considered top-tier, but it was never terrible either. But with the arrival of 10th edition, the Adeptus Mechanicus have become one of the weakest armies in the game.

Despite the nerfs, Adeptus Mechanicus armies still retain some unique flavor, even though the new rules introduce concepts not previously mentioned in the lore. Some Adeptus Mechanicus players are blaming the nerfs on what they see as inherent weaknesses in the army, while others see them as an indication of potential future FAQ updates that will bring balance to the army.

“Units that should be in (a) codex are not,” one player says of the Adeptus Mechanicus. “Units that should not be in (the) codex are,” another player responds. “And the army-wide special rules don’t benefit us at all.”

Some players are even going so far as to call the nerfs “unintentional,” suggesting that rules were written with a different interpretation of how the army functions. “Rules were probably written based on assumptions about (the) army,” another player says. “Blaming rules writers for rules that don’t match our expectations is unfair.”

Whether there are unintentional nerfs or misinterpreted rules remains to be seen, but it is clear that the army-wide rules have impacted the army in a significant way. As other armies receive nerfs in FAQ updates, the Adeptus Mechanicus will have to wait for their own codex release for potential changes.

Despite the weakened state of the army, many Adeptus Mechanicus players are embracing the challenge and creating fun lists using their favorite units. Many players are finding joy in the hobby beyond competitive battling, appreciating the creative conversions they’ve made and the unique aspects of their armies.

“I’m just gonna play what I like,” one player says. “I’ll use the new rules to create fun lists,” another player responds. “If I lose, I lose. I’m not going to get salty about it.”

The Adeptus Mechanicus hope for a complete overhaul when their codex is released, as the rulebook may need significant revisions. In the meantime, players are finding solace in the small victories, appreciating the units they enjoy and the conversions they have made.

If you’re looking for your own little victory in the meantime, maybe try to find a way to make a full army of Sicaran Infiltrators, defying the odds and achieving victory at a tournament in a fully Adeptus Mechanicus army.
