Beware of a Scam Targeting Below Deck Sailing Yacht Fans
A fan of Below Deck Sailing Yacht recently fell victim to a scam involving an individual impersonating Colin Macrae's manager. This fraudulent scheme aims to deceive viewers of the popular Bravo TV show and has raised concerns among its dedicated audience.
The scammer, posing as Colin Macrae's manager, has been reaching out to fans of the show, which follows a group of yachting crew members. However, the scam primarily revolves around using Macrae as bait. The perpetrator sends messages that initially appear legitimate to fans of the Bravo TV show. They then ask these unsuspecting fans to complete seemingly harmless tasks, which ultimately lead to their being scammed.
Colin Macrae, known for his appearances as a crew member on various charter yachts in Below Deck Sailing Yacht, has unfortunately become the central figure of this scam. Strangers pretending to be his managers or representatives contact fans of the show, aiming to elicit a response. This distressing situation has not only affected viewers of Below Deck Sailing Yacht but also fans of The Real Housewives, as Macrae has made appearances alongside several stars from that show.
One concerned fan warns others in the comments section of a Macrae Instagram post from January 6, stating, "There's something going on regarding Colin Macrae's Instagram. I was contacted by someone pretending to be his manager/agent. They claim to represent him and have favorited many of my posts."
While the exact number of affected fans and the extent of the scam's impact remain unclear, several individuals commenting on the post have already fallen victim to the scheme. These victims caution other fans not to respond to any suspicious messages and share their own experiences. One person even claims to have been asked to pay $9500 (£7140) to avoid a lawsuit.
Bravo, the network behind Below Deck Sailing Yacht, has reached out to those affected by the scam, assuring them that it is fake and "has nothing to do with any of our shows." In a message shared by Below Deck Sailing Yacht fan @MOXIA3, Bravo confirms the fraudulent nature of these messages and provides advice on what to do if contacted by the scammers.
If you receive such messages from a blocked/private number, contact your local law enforcement immediately. They will then get in touch with the IMEI provider to deactivate the device. Bravo…
