Still dreaming of a Cities: Skylines 2 release date? While the follow-up to the 2015 city builder has seen some delays, this new trailer from Paradox Interactive highlights the improved transportation infrastructure you can expect from the sequel, alongside the grand city designs that are sure to make your heart sing.
After filling the void left by the failure of the SimCity reboot, Cities: Skylines led the revival of the genre in the earlier 2020s. While new entries like Solasta: Crown of the Gods, Cities: Recharged, and Arceum have been pouring into the marketplace, there’s still plenty of wonder left in Skylines, as the latest trailer seems to suggest.
Cities: Skylines 2 release date
Cities: Skylines 2 releases on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The game will cost $50 (£40 / €50) and will be available on Steam.
The original Skylines launched with realism on its mind, but it’s fair to say that the game missed the mark on some fronts, especially when it came to night-time cities. Thankfully we won’t be faced with the same fate in Skylines 2, as the latest trailer from GLC strut their stuff at all hours.
There’s also some slick new road and freeway designs on display, along with transit infrastructure that looks much more conducive to keeping the flow of traffic. Take a look for yourself:
Here’s a breakdown of the new features on show:
This is just the latest in a long line of Cities: Skylines trailers, and it shows that Colossal Order and Paradox are still dreaming big when it comes to ways to handle our bustling metropolises. Even without the extensive expansion roster of its predecessor, Skylines 2 has lofty ambitions, suggesting that it will be “the most realistic city simulation ever created.”
When Skylines first landed in 2015, it filled the vacuum left by the failure of the SimCity reboot to deliver a product that nurtured rather than necessitated online play. Since then, the genre has had – to put it mildly – a great few years, and there are already a number of great city builders out there with new entries set to release in 2023.
Whether it’s the sprawling splendor of Lovers in Venice, the night-time stylings of Solasta, or the sports-laden simulators on offer in Arceum and The Sims 4, there’s something for everyone when it comes to modern cities – and the building that goes alongside them.
