The Hellblade 2 trailer dropped during the Xbox Games Showcase today, but it left one big mystery unsolved – that of the Big Guy. As the Celtic horror game’s first teaser dropped back in October, it featured a figure obscured in fog calling for help, set upon by creatures. He was then about to be attacked by the Hellblade gargoyle when Senua intervened.
While the new Hellblade 2 trailer does show the protagonist and her battle against the darker forces in her mind, the Big Guy is nowhere to be seen. It’s a surprise, given that developers Ninja Theory even acknowledged the possibility that the “shadowy figure” might not appear in the final game. So what was his deal, where was he going, and why did he need help? Here’s what we know.
The new Hellblade 2 trailer follows Senua as she’s seemingly trapped in her own cave, the voices in her head growing louder as she pleads for someone to “burn away the darkness.” The fog bellows around her until one voice sticks out from the rest and says “I know you.” Who could it be?
While the Big Guy could have been marked for death from the start, it’s also possible that he was struggling with similar issues as Senua. Additionally, he was partially attacked by the Hellblade statue, meaning he might be the first person to have escaped from the horrors inflicted upon him by Senua’s curse.
Hellblade 2 is a sequel ripe with possibilities and uncertainty, but this new trailer leaves plenty unanswered. We’ve got five things we want to see in Hellblade 2 and everything we know about earlier Hellblade 2 leaks.

A mysterious fog envelopes Senua, who is trapped in her cave, in the new Hellblade 2 trailer.
When a new Hellblade 2 trailer emerged from Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, eagle-eyed fans eagerly checked for one thing – was the Big Guy there? The enigmatic figure first appeared in Hellblade 2’s earliest teaser, and while fans were unsure if he’d be prominent in the game, his presence was confirmed by developers Ninja Theory shortly after. But with the newest footage showcasing Senua’s struggle with voices in her head, the Big Guy is nowhere to be seen. Is he dead? Did we see his fate during the events of Hellblade? Here’s everything we know about the mysterious figure and his strange fate.
The Hellblade 2 trailer is eerily familiar for those who played the first game. In a foggy, somewhat dark scene, Senua is seemingly trapped in a cave. The voices in her head begin to grow louder and louder, until one sticks out from the rest. It says “I know you.” While we don’t know to whom the voice belongs, but it’s fair to say that it’s not the Big Guy. Well, there’s a chance it is, but the developers have clarified that it’s not.
The rest of the trailer shows Senua fighting against her inner demons and the fog. She’s then back at the site of the boat accident, in which she was diagnosed with psychosis. The voices gradually begin to intensify as Senua fights against them and is eventually trapped in her own cave, where she begins to plead for help.
The last part of the trailer shows Senua reaching into a pool as a voice tells her to find something. Upon doing so, the pool shatters like glass and she falls out of the cave. It’s unclear where exactly this was, but the new cinematic camera angle may suggest that Hellblade 2 will follow up the psychological horror of the first game with physical surroundings that could be tortured by the shift to Unreal Engine 5.
As for the Big Guy, we will likely never know what his story is or why he might have disappeared from Hellblade 2. The developers have perhaps eased the minds of some concerned fans by suggesting that it’s entirely possible the Big Guy won’t be featured in the game. So much for that, then. While
