Horizon Forbidden West Pays Tribute to Lance Reddick
Horizon Forbidden West, the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 sequel, rounds off its talented cast with the addition of Sylens. The mysterious character, voiced by the talented Lance Reddick, featured in the original Horizon Zero Dawn and became a fan favorite – and now, in a heartfelt nod, Guerrilla Games has added an in-game memorial to the actor in the game, paying respects to its talented contributor, and serving as a touching tribute to the Gaming icon’s legacy in the industry.
Reddick, who appeared in television shows such as The Wire and Body of Proof, as well as in motion pictures such as the Next Gen and the Ocean’s franchise, was also a voice performer in Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Zero Dawn, playing the character Sylens. Sadly, the actor passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a legacy in gaming.
The memorial in Horizon Forbidden West serves as exactly that – a tribute to Reddick. It can be found, wonderfully, in an area that played a significant part in the first game, and which will feature heavily in Horizon Forbidden West (players have already been given an inside look at gameplay from the game’s very first area).
“The Horizon world has always been full of tremendous character and storytelling, and Lance grew to become a vital part of that,” Horizon Forbidden West executive producer Annka Uchtmann says of Reddick’s portrayal of Sylens in the original game. “We are extremely grateful for the contribution Lance made to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden Wisdom. We hope the in-game memorial in Horizon Forbidden West will serve as a special tribute to Lance and his work.”
Adding in-game memorials to beloved actors is a moving way to represent their contribution to games, as well as a testament to the impact their performances have on players and the gaming community as a whole.
