Life Is Strange: Save Kate Marsh from Jumping

Are you desperate to save Kate Marsh? If you are, you’re in the right place, as certain decisions you make before Kate ends up on the roof of the dorm impact how easy it is to talk her down.

Kate Marsh, a cult member from the first game, is one of two new characters in Life Is Strange 2. The other is Rachel Amber, a long-time figure in the series who finally gets her time to shine. Kate, on the other hand, fades into the background with only a couple of meaningful scenes in Beyond the Walls and Rules. However, who knows what could have happened had it not been for one person – Victoria.

While Max Caulfield and Chloe Price go through their own trials and tribulations during the first game, Kate Marsh has plenty to deal with also; particularly during the first two episodes. It all begins before the events of the game, when Kate gets drugged at a party and is filmed being a little promiscuous. As a religious girl, she’s very ashamed, but this is only the beginning.

As the video is shared just about everywhere, all over the world, the other kids realise who ‘Big Sis’ is, which causes even more of a ripple in her life. Finally, it gets to a point that the bullying drives the poor girl to the brink and, in episode two, she climbs atop the dorms, determined to jump. The only person who can save her is…. you guessed it, you.

Unlike most difficult choices, however, you can’t use your rewind power to solve this (though there is a hint in the final scene of Beyond The Walls that it could have been prevented – more on that later). Rather, you must talk her down. Here’s how you do so.

Which Decisions Impact How to Save Kate Marsh?

There are a few decisions you can make and various characters you can interact with in the first episode and second to impact how to save Kate Marsh in Life Is Strange 2. The ones that impact the decision on the roof are:

  • Finding David Madsen shouting at Kate

When you first see the cult leader, he’s shouting at Kate, the poor girl with confused headphones on, perhaps wishing the whole world would just go away. You have the option to intervene or take a picture. Whichever you choose, it can alter what he says to her. Next, when you return to the dorms with Chloe, Kate cries, says she doesn’t know what happened, and blames someone called Victoria.

  • Intervene

To be fair, if you are upset, screaming at high volume doesn’t help anybody. You can choose to wait for David and Kate to finish, or instead shout yourself, demanding an explanation for his behaviour. This opens up dialogue about Kate at the party, and what happened after. Apparently, this is prevented by telling David off. In Beyond The Walls, Kate says, “When I finally came down from the dorms, a classmate I thought understood me created this video that ruined my life”, hinting that saving her in the first episode might have prevented the whole thing.

  • Take a photo

If you grab your camera instead of walking up to intervene, David thinks you’re a hacker. Kate is terrified – she stops crying and is terrified of you, too. It almost seems easier to walk up to her, but if she’s going to blame someone, better her than you.

  • Talk to Chloe or Vanessa next to Kate

You can talk to Chloe or Vanessa next to the crying Kate. The conversations with Chloe and Vanessa are pretty similar, though your response when Chloe says “There’s nothing we can do” can impact how easily you can talk Kate down. With Vanessa, bringing up Rachel (right after discovering the body you end up with Rachel Amber’s body) can lead to a deduction about Kate, but this has no impact on her decision to jump or not.
