Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Launches on PC
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is launching on PC, bringing the original three games to Steam for the first time. Unfortunately, players won't be able to play the bundled games with a mouse and keyboard, as stated on the official Steam page. This wording has since been removed, leading some to speculate that the page went live prematurely. Clarification from Konami or the game's launch will be needed to confirm.
Controller Input Only
The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Steam page has been taken down, but as of publication, it can still be found via Google. According to the now-removed text, the bundled collection only supports controller input, suggesting that playing with a keyboard will only be possible if you’re planning to use one for menu navigation.
Iconic series aside, this bundle is launching on Valve's platform, which raises eyebrows considering the publisher's stance on exclusive PC titles that either go unrecognized or unsupported. Nevertheless, the Master Collection includes the original Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge. It's worth noting that these NES remakes will also require a joystick.
I'm hesitant to call this a PC masterpiece since playing the collection's later games with a gamepad feels inferior compared to other options. However, Metal Gear Solid is available on GOG and supports both mouse and keyboard as well as a controller, making the bundled collection's lack of support a little baffling. Clarification from Konami or the game's launch will be needed to confirm.
Even if players use a controller, the game's controller support suggests that Master Collection will be playable on the Steam Deck, which is great news considering the portable's growing list of compatible titles. However, keep in mind that the Deck's Metal Gear Solid limitations may make the experience less ideal for Gaming on the go.
Alternatively, players can enjoy the collection on the Switch, as Konami confirmed its inclusion in a recent Direct. This exciting announcement naturally led many to wonder if the game would also be coming to PC, as it primarily functions as a cartridge collection without a full remake. Fortunately, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will also be available on PlayStation and Xbox.
