30XX is the surprise announcement from PC gaming show reveal, as Batterystaple Games reveals the roguelite platformer will exit early access in August and launch proper. It’ll be accompanied by a killer chiptune soundtrack, robot-butt-kicking action, and NieR Automata-inspired secret endings. What’s not to love?
The 30XX sequel is a retro-style Mega Man-esque roguelite that places you into the (shiny) shoes of android duo Ace and Nina as they awaken after a thousand-year slumber to platform through a fragile world and whoop any robot that gets in their way. It supports solo play, but can be enjoyed with a pal in local or online co-op.
You can slip into either Roguelite Mode, with its randomly generated levels and permadeath countdowns, or jump into the more traditional Mega Mode for levels that remain the same each time and feature save points to track your progress. You can tailor difficulty levels to offer the right balance of challenge depending on how many frustrating deaths you can handle, which is a nice touch.
If you’ve had enough of besting the bot bosses and seek some new challenges, you’ll be pleased to learn there’s a level editor in the newly announced Maker Mode that’ll let you dive into custom campaigns concocted by other players. Marsh of Batterystaple explains how the functionality works in the latest PC Gaming Show video above, with a custom campaign jam-packed with levels from the indie developer already available to try.
30XX is coming to PC on August 9 via Steam, with an existing early access build that you can dive into now alongside the full release. If you’re after some more advice on how to inject a bit of pizazz into your PC gaming headlines, check out our tips on how to write great news story headlines.
