Pikmin 4: A Disappointing Co-op Mode
Pikmin 4’s co-op mode is disappointing fans of the series, as it’s been scaled back compared to Pikmin 3 Deluxe. In co-op mode, the second player will not have a character to control. Instead, they can use an on-screen pointer to interact with the game.
Fans have expressed their disappointment on the Pikmin subreddit, with one Redditor calling the mode a “gigantic regression for the series.” This comment highlights Pikmin 3 Deluxe’s co-op mode, which allowed the second player to control the series’ titular Pikmin. Many people are upset to discover that this feature won’t be included in Pikmin 4.
Another fan wrote, “I introduced my girlfriend to the series through Pikmin 3’s co-op. Now she’s playing through 2 and 1, and we’re so excited to play 4 together.” Unfortunately, the co-op option has been replaced with Oatchi, the dog companion in Pikmin 4.
Pikmin 4 co-op is just one of the features that has been scrutinized prior to the game’s release. While the game’s visuals and gameplay have received praise in early previews, some fans feel that the addition of Oatchi as a companion character would have worked better as a solo option. Additionally, the inclusion of microtransactions, which allow players to spend real money on items to help their Pikmin grow more quickly, has also raised concerns.
Despite the lackluster co-op mode, early impressions of Pikmin 4 suggest that it will still be a fun game.
