The starter tools of Pokemon Home are cool and all, but if you’ve been playing since launch or got your hands on the full game then you’re no doubt looking to get your hands on different Pokemon and items. The only way to do that is by taking part in one of the four available trade options in Pokemon Home. To make sure you’re not being taken for a ride in a Pokemon Home trade, and make sure you’re not doing anything wrong, we’ve put together a handy Pokemon Home trade guide, with all the tips and tricks you could need.
How to trade in Pokemon Home
The trade menu is easily accessed right after starting the app up, so you won’t be lost when looking for the trading function. You can also find it back at the home screen by scrolling down to the last tab, which says ‘trade’. All of these methods work on the mobile version of the app as well.
When you click on trade in the Pokemon Home menu, you can check out which Pokemon friends are ready to trade, filter down which friends are online, or put your own Pokemon up for trade. It’s worth checking in a few hours to see your mystery Pokemon waiting to be claimed.
These are the four ways of trading Pokemon in Pokemon Home:
There are some basic rules to consider before trading, which we share in our tips below. First, we go through each of these trades one by one.
Wonder Box trade
The Wonder Box allows you to trade multiple Pokemon at once, starting with being able to trade three at one time, again this increases based on staying a subscriber to the Pokemon Home service.
If you’re playing on the Cloud Version of Pokemon Home, then triple the amount of Pokemon can be traded. It works only on the GTS where you submit the Pokemon you want instead of putting one of your own up, but the Pokemon you receive is replaced with the Pokemon given by the person you’re trading with.
GTS
The GTS feature is a staple of Pokemon as players put any Pokemon of theirs that they’d like up for trade, with the exception of Mythical Pokemon, and anyone who is up for the trade can then take it.
Make sure you follow some etiquette when using the GTS, and check out our GTS tips here to avoid being rude. It’s more likely you’ll find rare Pokemon on the GTS during gen 5’s Night Sky Festival, but also be aware that it can be prime for cheaters.
Room Trade
The Room Trade option is a great way to trade with friends who are playing Pokemon Home at the same time as you. To set up a room trade, simply open the trade menu, then the Room Trade tab which opens the the room trade menu. Here you can see other rooms that are at the trade station and you can pick one to join. Once you’re in the room, tap send, then send a code to your friends so you can all get into the room and start trading.
You can setup as many room trades as you like, and can include more than one other player in one trade. This can be a good way to meet and befriend people who are playing the game. Room Trade only allows Pokemon the participant has either caught or received as a pass power Pokemon. No items can be traded either.
Friend trade
Friend Trade allows you to trade with anyone on your friend list. It’s a great way to trade with people you trust as this is the only way to trade Pokemon directly with someone who is playing on the Nintendo Switch version of Pokemon Home. It works the same as the Room Trade option but is a one-on-one trade instead of with a group.
As with the Room Trade option, this only allows Pokemon the participant has either caught or received as a pass power Pokemon. No items can be traded either.

That said, make sure you follow some etiquette when using the GTS, and check out our GTS tips here to avoid being rude. It’s more likely you’ll find rare Pokemon on the GTS during gen
