Sonic Frontiers Update: Spin Control
Fans of Sonic Frontiers have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the recent unlock requirements for the beloved spin dash move. However, there is some good news on the horizon. The latest episode of Sonic Central, titled 'Spin Control,' sheds light on the upcoming update, providing insight into what players can expect from the retro game's next big content drop.
The highlight of the update is the addition of Sonic's iconic spin-dash move, a fan-favorite that was curiously absent from the base game. The return of this beloved move has brought joy to the fanbase, but that joy has quickly turned to frustration due to the challenging way it has been implemented.
In order to unlock the spin dash, players must complete specific objectives in the open world, which fall under the new 'Action Chain' category. Unfortunately, the game fails to provide clear instructions on how to accomplish these objectives, and from what we have seen so far, the requirements are extremely demanding.
Players are required to achieve an S-rank in all of the newly-added 'Action Chain' challenges, of which there are approximately 40. However, finding these challenges is no easy task, as they are scattered throughout the open world. Furthermore, achieving an S-rank requires flawless execution without making any mistakes.
These challenges involve various actions, such as hitting targets and defeating bosses without taking any damage. While some of the Action Chain challenges are enjoyable, others are arduous and frustrating, as reported by players who have already attempted them.
Initial impressions suggest that these challenges can be quite difficult. Some players have shared tips, such as immediately lowering the difficulty or utilizing the Cyclone Kick move, to aid in completing them. However, many players are frustrated by the amount of time required to unlock the spin dash and the lack of clarity regarding the high requirements.
Fortunately, a player named HyperBE32 has created a mod that instantly unlocks the spin-dash, saving others from investing an excessive amount of time. This mod reflects the 'gotta go fast' mentality synonymous with Sonic himself.
The outcry over the unlock requirements highlights the importance of clear communication from game developers regarding unlockables and their associated challenges. Players are seeking a more streamlined and accessible method to unlock the spin-dash, without having to invest an exorbitant amount of time into challenging tasks.
This negative response also raises questions about the overall enjoyment and satisfaction players experience while playing the game. Sega may need to reevaluate their approach in order to address these concerns.
