The Best Street Fighter Characters in Crossovers

Are you wondering which Street Fighter characters have crossed into other games? When Capcom gets it right, that’s exactly what we call a crossover or crossover event. They’re usually a surprise within a game’s story and the fan community goes nuts for them.

Crossovers, whether external like the Marvel vs Capcom series or internal like Killer Instinct’s Crimson Assassin, are like a dream come true for fighting game fans who thought their favourite characters might never actually meet. When done right, crossovers are also one of the best PC games, like when Tekken’s Akuma showed up to help Ryu fight Shang Tsung. Here are the best Street Fighter characters in crossovers to appear elsewhere in games.

Marvel vs Capcom

When Capcom announced a collaboration game between Marvel’s superheroes and the company’s own stable of fighting games, it was like a dream come true. The series is one of the wildest concepts in fighting games, each new iteration getting wackier than the last.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 came out first and featured a more Capcom-dominated roster, throwing in two X-Men, Jill Valentine from Resident Evil, and even a guest appearance from Chun-Li’s father, Mr. Ma. On the Marvel side, we got Venom, Doctor Doom, and Ghost Rider. Probably the oddest inclusions were Phoenix from Street Fighter Alpha and Sentinel from X-Men, both of whom aren’t exactly famous names. Still, the series is evergreen and with the latest Marvel game out and a new MvC game coming, hopefully we’ll get to see more crossover appearances moving forward.

Asura’s Wrath

Asura’s Wrath is a wild, over-the-top action game that uses quicktime events whenever Asura needs to tear out someone’s heart or punch a demon thousands of feet through the air. While it was a hit while it was out on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it has since faded into obscurity.

Laughs aside, this is a game that took its fandom really seriously, with lots of nods to things like Dragon Ball, Gurren Lagann, the Ghostbusters films, and most notably, Street Fighter. As you work your way through the game, you eventually learn that Asura was a martial arts teacher who trained both Yang Xiao Long from RWBY and Ryu from Street Fighter. Asura’s Wrath also intends to start from the beginning of the life of its antagonist Imperator, who intends to destroy the world to give birth to Asura’s world and his wife, Izanami.

Capcom’s Cannon Spike

Who would have thought that Street Fighter and Captain Commando would be hanging out? That’s exactly what happened during Capcom’s odd arcade and later Dreamcast game Cannon Spike, which crossed over Capcom characters for a top-down shooter experience. How about a fire-spitting Ryu, curling Chun-Li, blasting B.O.W.s with Jill Valentine, and kicking some serious Ouma from Rival Schools butt?

Well, that’s exactly what Cannon Spike threw together the moment it was unveiled. From Morrigan to Akuma, from Rival School to Rival School 2, from Resident Evil to Biohazard, from Darkstalkers to Dino Crisis, no single Capcom series was safe from being infected with a bit of fighting game DNA.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law

Fans of Adult Swim might know that there’s an excellent duos game based on a surreal cartoon called Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. It’s a goofy, tongue-in-cheek, and intentionally silly story where Harvey travels through different cases. Typically, these involve him taking on a guest superhero or supervillain each episode, alongside a regular cast including our favourite CPS officers Birdgirl and Threepwood.

Harvey Birdman never takes itself too seriously and its characters have had many a cameo through the years. And in this particular game, there’s even more Street Fighter characters making appearances throughout the series, from Ed and Rocky from Street Fighter 2 to Blanka, R. Mika, and more.
