A new game from Fable and Black and White studio Lionhead
A game called “The Movies” is remembered fondly by many of you as a unique and enjoyable experience that, despite its age, you still enjoy playing. The developer, Fable and Black and White studio Lionhead, is also highly praised — particularly for its games in the former series. But the closure of the studio was a disappointment to fans. Now, a new game from the same team is on the horizon, and it could be controversial.
Blockbuster Inc is coming.
This teaser looks amazing. I was never a fan of The Movies, but I’m still excited for Blockbuster Inc.
“The Movies” is definitely an underrated gem from the mid-2000s that still holds up today. With its sandbox gameplay, resource management, and movie-making combined, the game was unique, innovative, and complex.
Lionhead’s closure in 2022 was a blow to the fan community, but the studio is making a comeback with a new game called “Blockbuster Inc.” It’s being helmed by Peter Molyneux, the creator of “The Movies” and many other great games like “Fable” and “Dungeon Keeper.” You’ll notice that I said “creator” rather than “developer,” as Molyneux is known for overpromising and underdelivering in his projects.
Molyneux’s reputation has been tarnished by past controversies, such as the failed AI child project for Xbox’s Kinect. Combined with the fact that Lionhead closed due to financial issues, the community has a lot of skepticism.
Despite some of the game’s flaws, including the fact that your actors would get penalized if you used the same one repeatedly, I still regard “The Movies” as an underrated gem from the mid-2000s that still holds up today.
The music in “The Movies” brings me right back to the classic film “The Godfather,” and the complexity and innovation impresses me. Some of you even share your personal experiences and accomplishments in creating movies within the game.
Despite the community’s love for “The Movies” and desire for a revival, there is also a desire among some users for a black and white remake and a remaster of “The Movies.”
While I wouldn’t say it’s the best game ever, I certainly would recommend it as something that’s worth playing if you’re interested in the sandbox genre. The game’s grading system, which penalized the use of the same actor, doesn’t really reflect real-world appreciation for actors like Tom Holland, but that’s a small flaw.
In any case, the community’s love for “The Movies” and desire for a revival is evident, and I would love to see a black and white remake and a remaster. Please, EA, give this one a shot.

Whatever your thoughts on the game, the hundreds of thousands of copies sold is evident and there’s plenty of love for it.
