What are the rarest Digimon Card Game promo cards? We’ve looked into the premium prizing of one of the most popular trading card games, and discovered the most desireable cards circulating the market, including some truly meta-relevant cards.
Digimon Card Game Promo Cards
While the highest tiers of competitive play revolve around full arts, in the anime-centric world of the Digimon Card Game, it’s the promos that collectors go wild for. Unique for their iconic artwork and rarity, some promos have become staples of the format due to game-altering effects and scarcity. Usage for many of these cards is sparse outside of niche combos, but that doesn’t detract from their allure in the collectible card game. Using data from the TCGPlayer market price, here are the 20 most valuable Digimon Card Game promos.
1. WereGarurumon
WereGarurumon was once a competitive staple thanks to its ability to unsuspend when you attack. It’s still a strong tool in certain combos, and you can read more about its usefulness in our article on the top 10 Digimon card list. This promo was given out during regional events in 2021 and was Champion Stamped with a limited number of Champion versions.
2. Omnimon (Box Topper)
This alternate art Omnimon is a box topper found inside BT12 Across Time booster boxes. As these cards were printed in the millions, the pull rate is hotly debated, though it could be as low as one in every six cases. Regardless, the beautiful art by legendary designer Kenji Watanabe makes this a desired item for collectors.
3. Magnamon (Tamer Party Exclusive)
Bandai also includes exclusive chase variants in its Tamer Parties. These are small events aimed at newer players that contain simplified rule sets and exclusive promos. Magnamon is one example of a card that is rare simply because of the rarity of these events.
4. Ultimate Cup Prizes
The Ultimate Cup events are truly the pinnacle of the Digimon Card Game. Every six months, Bandai releases a new set and runs the Ultimate Cups – official tournaments where some very special rules are introduced. From the 2010 onwards, a prize was awarded to every finalist who placed in the Top Eight of the tournament, and a grand prizing was handed out to the eventual champion.
While the top prizing has always been high-priced cards like Imperialdramon Paladin Mode and Omnimon, these costs are subjective, particularly as you’re unlikely to see any of these major players rotate into play over the course of a game. But, to win such a prestigious event, you had to earn it, which is why the Gallantmon is among the priciest cards in the game.
5. Gallantmon (Ultimate Cup 2022 and 2023)
Fashionable and awesome-looking, the top reward for the Ultimate Cups in 2022 and 2023 handed this Gallantmon out. There were only seven of these events held worldwide during the pandemic, meaning that raw count is reason enough for this card’s rarity and price tag.
6. Imperialdramon Fighter Mode (Ultimate Cup 2022)
The Imperialdramon Fighter Mode card was awarded to players who placed in the Top Eight during a 2022 Ultimate Cup. With a circulation of just 184, it’s far and away the rarest Fighter Mode card in the entire game.
7. Omnimon IV & Gallantmon Crimson Mode (DC-1 Alternate Art)
DC-1 stands for the Digimon Card 01 series. These events were one of the big tournament series that kicked off the post-release meta gameplay for the card game. The top eight players were rewarded with an alternate art of the fastest Royal Knight – Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, aka Omnimon IV. A stunning Gallantmon, wouldn’t you agree?
8. Gallantmon Crimson Mode
Another DC-1 event prize is this notorious Gallantmon Crimson Mode, with artwork by Kenji Watanabe. The image itself is just stunning, and paired with the limited numbers of this card, it’s no surprise it’s instantly become one of the most desired cards in the meta.
9. WarGreymon
Bandai has always strived to give players cool rewards for placing at high-level events. The WarGreymon card is far from meta-relevant, but that rarity factor coupled with its history as a tournament prizing make it one of the coolest WarGreymon cards in the game.
10. Gallantmon Crimson Mode & Twin Swords of Light
Much like Gallantmon, the Gallantmon Crimson Mode has a beautiful artwork by Kenji Watanabe and was included as a prizing for competing in the highest-level tournaments. The Twin Swords of Light is certainly one of the nicest-looking cards in the game, making it sought after among card game fans, new and old.
