Grounded, the open-world game filled with bugs and tough enemies, presents a formidable challenge when it comes to facing its bosses. Some bosses are optional, while others are essential for completing the game. If you're looking to take on these terrifying creatures, here's everything you need to know about each boss and how to defeat them.
The Mant: A Failed Experiment
The Mant, a failed experiment by Dr. Wendell Tully, can only be killed once. To find the Mant, head to the Undershed Lab in the Upper Yard. Look for a giant egg and the remains of Wendell Tully. Prepare for this fight by equipping at least Level Three gear and the Reactor X Gear, obtained by defeating the Wasp Queen. The Mant attacks with melee strikes and summons Fire Ants, but the real challenge lies in avoiding its infected spores that inflict poison damage.
After defeating the Mant, you can use the Mutation it drops to have a two percent chance of summoning the Mant during fights. Additionally, obtaining the Mantis is relatively easy.
The Grounded Mantis: A Giant Praying Mantis
The Grounded Mantis can be found by using a summoning item in the Flower Pot atop the Shed in the Upper Yard. To access this area, defeat the Hedge Broodmother and Assistant Manager. Make sure you have at least Level Three tools and weapons. If you lack the necessary gear, you can acquire the Mantis's materials by defeating the Lower Hive Queen, who drops the Mantis Claw and Mantis Tail.
In battle, the Mantis flies around, slamming the ground and producing an area of effect wave that knocks players down. It also shoots lasers from its eyes. Defeating the Mantis unlocks the Mutation Apex Predator, enhancing the damage and effects of weapons crafted from boss materials. Consider using a weapon with Life Steal to mitigate the poison damage from the Mantis's attacks.
The Grounded Orchid Mantis: An Infected Giant Praying Mantis
The Grounded Orchid Mantis can be found in the Haze, a foggy and poisonous area of the map. Look for scattered corpses to know you're in the right place. The Orchid Mantis attacks with consecutive slams that produce an area of effect wave, poisonous spores, and uses its tongue to inflict Venom damage that cannot be protected with Mithradatism. Brace yourself for a challenging fight against this infected creature.
The Grounded Assistant Manager: A Chaotic Robot Boss
The Grounded Assistant Manager is a robot boss required to progress in the game. The battle is chaotic, with lasers and electricity constantly posing a threat. Touching a laser means instant death. Seek spots to hide, preferably in the middle of the pillar where the lasers emerge, to stay safe.
The Grounded Wasp Queen: The Toughest Boss
The Grounded Wasp Queen is one of the most challenging bosses in the game. To fight her, you must first unlock the entrance to the Brawny Boy Bin in the Upper Yard. Prepare for her ranged and melee attacks, as well as poison damage. She also summons other wasps to aid her. Use a weapon with a fast attack speed and good range to avoid her attacks. Consider equipping a weapon with Life Steal to counteract the poison damage.
The Hedge Broodmother: An Optional Boss
The Hedge Broodmother is an optional boss located in the trees or hedge near Hedge Lab. Similar to the Mantis, she inflicts poison damage and summons smaller spiderlings. If you find this fight challenging, use a weapon with Life Steal or eliminate the spiderlings to avoid the confrontation entirely.
The Infected Broodmother: A Venomous Challenge
The Infected Broodmother, an optional boss found in the Haze, is similar to the Hedge Broodmother but infected. She inflicts Venom damage that cannot be countered with Mithradatism. The Infected Broodmother employs various attacks, including throwing spores and using explosives. Surviving this battle may require a miracle.
Director Schmector: A Chaotic Optional Boss
Director Schmector is an optional boss fight reminiscent of the Assistant Manager but more chaotic. Touching the lasers in this fight spells instant death. Seek cover and avoid the lasers at all costs. Good luck!
