The Digimon Card Game side sets, or “EX” sets, include lower power cards compared to main sets like BT11 Dimensional Phase. However, the four Alter-S variants and ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode are making this set trend due to their popularity and visual appeal. These staple cards will be used in many decks, increasing the value of some BlitzGreymon and CresGarurumon singles.
The Alter-S Deck and the Popular BlitzGreymon
The fourth side set, Alternative Being, features alternate versions of fan-favorite Digimon, including the Royal Knight Omnimon. BlitzGreymon, an alternate form Mega of the fan-favorite Rookie Dinosaur, has not received much attention compared to other Greymon variants in the past. This changed with the release of the card’s Alter Art.
The Alternate Art of BlitzGreymon, drawn by Naochika Morishita, is not only a visually stunning piece but also brings utility to the new DNA-focused Omnimon Alter-S deck. The new variant of the Dinosaur can bounce back any Digimon whose cost adds up to six to your opponent’s hand, clearing the way for your Omnimon Alter-S to win the game.
BlitzGreymon and CresGarurumon are the only cards in the set with alternate art, making them instant collector’s items. However, the demand for their full art counterparts is even higher due to them being drawn by the same artist.
The Utility of Omnimon Alter-B
Omnimon Alter-B, one of the two Secret Rare cards in the set, is highly sought after for its utility in the new Jogress deck. Besides being a key card in the deck, Omnimon Alter-B can Digivolve on any card with Omnimon in its name, including ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode, even if it is not in the center spot. This means that, to build a max rarity Alter-S deck, you will need four copies of this card, which can be quite costly.
The Power of ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode
The other lottery card is for ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode, another key card for the Alter-S deck. ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode didn’t gain much traction initially, but the addition of certain cards in BT12 and BT13 made it into a powerful archetype. You can now splash ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode in any Purple or Yellow deck that needs a level seven, making it valuable.
The Alter Art version of ShineGreymon: Ruin Mode is slightly more expensive than the regular art. Although the regular art is quite good, the demand for the Secret Rare version is due to its splendor and the archetype’s popularity.
Lottery Cards and Pull Rates
Alternative Being includes two lottery cards. The first is a silver foil version of BT5 Omnimon Zwart Defeat’s Alternate Art, which is the cover card of the set. The second lottery card is for Omnimon Alter-S, which is the cover Digimon of the set.
The value of lottery cards and their pull rates are not officially disclosed, but they are estimated to be around one in every two cases of booster boxes. In addition to the Alter-S lottery card, you are guaranteed to get a silver foil version of Omnimon Zwart Defeat’s Alternate Art in every two cases.
The security control archetype was popular in the past, specifically in the Japanese region, making BT5 Omnimon Zwart Defeat’s Alternate Art a sought-after card for die-hard Sec Con players.
Alternative Being is a trending set in the Digimon Card Game due to its valuable and collectible cards. If you’re interested in building the Alter-S deck, these cards will be indispensable. The only thing stopping you from acquiring these cards is the price tag and the random pull mechanics in the card game.
