The Yellowstone Spinoff Starring Matthew McConaughey Seems Very Likely
A Yellowstone spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey seems very possible, as the Oscar winner and the creator of the hit TV show tease what we can expect from the new project. With a captivating new take on the universe of Yellowstone promised, we could be seeing quite the shift from the original show – with a whole new cast and setting.
Set in the heartland of America, Yellowstone follows the lives of Lily Kay between three feuding family patriarchs and the double life that she leads. The series is a massive hit, garnering a dedicated fan base since its premiere and a second season renewal. With McConaughey at the helm we’ll see a fresh perspective on the universe of Yellowstone, with new storylines and meeting new characters.
“The chances of a spinoff starring Matthew going into different locations with new characters is probably is likely, at least based on what he was saying during the conversation,” Yahoo Entertainment reporter Jordan Bartley says of his interview with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.
“When I asked whether he’d want to bring some of the cast with him, he was clear in saying everyone would be new. However, I got the sense that with his past with Nat Geo, it feels right to have McConaughey there.”
Exclusively reporting for Express.co.uk I was lucky enough to ask McConaughey about the new project. Although he admitted that he hasn’t read the script, his involvement seems very set.
“I hope not too soon, I hope it’s a while off,” McConaughey says of the release date. “I don’t know if I’m even in it yet.”
“I haven’t heard the story, I haven’t heard the pitch, so I don’t have an idea [of its scope],” he admits. “But I hope its big, I hope it’s wide, I hope its far-reaching, and I’m excited to see it.”
With McConaughey at the helm I don’t doubt that it will be a hit among fans, as the A Time To Kill actor has an impressive acting range and a captivating screen presence. Alongside his star power, Yellowstone has garnered a massive and loyal audience, so it makes sense for the spinoff to be a major success.
There are no specifics regarding the plot or specific locations, but we’ll keep you updated as the news arises. With Yellowstone and the National Geographic channel, viewers will be happy to watch anything they put out, I’m just personally excited to see McConaughey in some rustic American clothes.
