A folky survival RTS game called Gord

A folky Survival RTS game called Gord has crept onto Steam, bringing with it a rich world and immersive storytelling as you manage your subjects’ needs, vices, and stories to tell. Based on Slavic folklore, Gord sees you take on the role of leader for a tribe at the brink of extinction, working together to gather resources and fend off threats. Developed by Covenant.dev, founded by a former producer on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this strategy game is just the thing for those who want to lose themselves in a compelling, rich world.

I’m a big fan of strategy games, from Civilization to Total War and even The Sims (yes, I play The Sims 4), so I was immediately drawn to the concept of Gord. Each of your subjects is fully fleshed out, with unique needs, weaknesses, and familial relations. Your tribe will face illness and death, and you’ll need to keep your community’s health in check while keeping their spirits high.

Each of your subjects has a story to tell, and that’s where this game really shines. Developed using Unity, Gord uses a mix of stylised 2D and 3D graphics to tell its story, from hand-drawn pictures guiding you through quests and offering up challenges, to the deep lore within the game’s world painted through the stories your people have to tell.

Train warriors and utilise powerful incantations to face off against your enemies, and call upon gods for help when needed. Each character is unique and special, and you’ll find yourself caring for them and their stories as they face illness, childbirth, and even death (but not quite yet, don’t worry). You can check out the launch trailer below:

Gord launches August 17 on Steam and GoG for $35/£30. You can also buy a Deluxe Edition for $40/£40, featuring the official soundtrack, digital art book, and a bonus scenario. Gord is also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but there are no other details just yet.

Keep up to date by following the game on Instagram, Twitter, or by joining the Discord channel.
