Remnant 2: From the Ashes - A Co-op Shooter Sequel That's Already a Hit on Steam

From the ashes, a hit is born. While the first Remnant was a cult classic, its sequel, Remnant 2, is already a Steam hit, earning a spot on the top sellers list and beating CS:GO player numbers. The Co-op Shooter sequel is also Steam’s most-played game at the moment, and we have the full Remnant 2 review here to explain why.

We gave Remnant: From the Ashes a positive review back in 2023, but it never quite reached hit status. The first game was more like a sleeper hit. But the sequel, which we reviewed here, is already getting more attention with positive reviews and more players because it legitimately improves on the fun co-op experience of the first game.

Developer Gunfire Games explains that it chose to create another co-op shooter with a defined beginning and end. The team is also planning DLC, and it’s clear that the game is designed to be replayable. You can read more about how Remnant 2 is designed to be replayed here.

The shooter is also on Steam’s most-played games list. At the time of writing, it’s number four, behind only Warface, CS:GO, and Dota 2. Despite this, it’s only available on Steam right now. There’s no Discord launch yet, or a console release.

The introduction to Remnant 2 is great, and it really sets up the story. You and your buddies get sucked into different dimensions, and you’ll have to fight your way through them to get back home. It’s a third-person shooter, but it’s more like Doom than Call of Duty.

There’s weapon upgrading, boss battles, and surprises along the way. Even if you played the first one, there’s still plenty of surprises this time around. Co-op gameplay is available for up to three players. If you’re looking for more players, we’d recommend our guide to the best Remnant 2 Discord crews.

While the first game was less successful as a solo experience, Remnant 2 is still a great single-player experience. The first game had some jank-levels that weren’t quite polished, but the sequel has reduced those levels significantly. While you could always play the first game on your own, it didn’t feel as good as it could have.

If you want to play the first one, you should check out our Remnant: From the Ashes mods and maps guide. Remnant 2 has a lot going for it, and it’s already a hit on Steam. If you’re looking for a non-live service game, it may be worth a shot.

Alternatively, if you like the look of the game but want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the story, we have everything you need to know about the Remnant 2 DLC. We’ve also got the lowdown on all the special editions, and you can find the standard edition price here.
