Heartstopper Season 2
Heartstopper Season 2 is here to steal your heart, and it’s coming soon. The second season of Netflix’s coming-of-age series is filled with Romance, tears, and LGBTQ++ stories that will touch your soul. If you haven’t already binged the critically-acclaimed series, then you need to do so immediately.
The second season of Heartstopper adapts the graphic novel’s third and fourth volumes, continuing where the first left off with Nick and Charlie navigating coming out to their loved ones. The challenges of being a couple in public are only surpassed by the experiences the two are having alone – Nick’s struggle with his sexuality and Charlie’s battle with anorexia.
Heartstopper Season 2 is more than just a coming-out story, it’s about the challenges faced by young queer people. It doesn’t shy away from addressing the hardships faced by LGBTQ+ people, from being bullied in school to having one’s identity questioned by their own family.
The subplot involving Isaac’s asexuality and Tara’s homophobic parents felt a bit forced and underdeveloped, but I’m hoping that will be explored further in future seasons. The show did a great job of developing supporting characters like Tara, Darcy, and Isaac, who received much more screen time than in the source material.
Heartstopper Season 2 is full of tear-jerking moments, but the opening episode is filled with adorable kisses that capture the magic and excitement of young love. If you’re looking for a new LGBTQ+ show to watch, then you can’t go wrong with Heartstopper.
William Gao and Yasmin Finney, who play Tao and Elle, have stepped up their game this season, but the real star is Kit Connor, who plays Nick. Connor delivers an impeccable performance as Nick, capturing the character’s complex emotions and subtle facial expressions.
If you’re looking for another LGBTQ+ show like Heartstopper, then you’ll want to check out these five picks. Of course, there are tons more excellent series on the streaming service, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind when I think about Heartstopper.
