The Spider-Man PS2 game Web of Shadows has been sold for hundreds of dollars on eBay by a user who jokingly declares that they will “never sell this game” despite its high price. The game is regarded as one of the most sought-after Spider-Man games and has become expensive due to its limited availability and high demand.

The Rarity and Scarcity of Web of Shadows

“You’re probably wondering why this game is so expensive,” the eBay user OldSchoolGamerz begins. “Well, the price is because it is a very rare game to find, and the price is [because of] scarcity.” The user continues, “You don’t become the King of Trade by reselling at a reasonable price.”

Web of Shadows has become an expensive game due to its delisting from digital platforms and limited availability of physical copies. However, other users think the high price is justified by its rarity and limited copies.

“I sold my copy for $150 years ago and regret it,” one user writes. “I would have to buy a PS2 and a TV to play it now, at least I had the console and TV then.” Another user mentions that the PlayStation 2 version of the game is different from the Xbox 360/PS3 version in that it is a side-scroller.

Others are more light-hearted about the high price, with one user jokingly referring to a subreddit called “r/shittygamecollecting” in response to the high price. Another user suggests that the high price may be due to brain damage or a concussion.

Another user calls Web of Shadows “a national treasure” while another criticizes scalpers and investors in the retro gaming hobby. One user reports that Web of Shadows is going for $139 brand new on Amazon, but the user points out that similar items can be found on eBay for a fraction of the cost.

Shrink-Wrapped vs. Used Copy

There is also a discussion about whether a shrink-wrapped copy of Web of Shadows is worth more than a used copy. “I’d rather have a new copy of a game I’ve never played than a used copy of one I’ve played,” one user writes. Another user responds, “While I’d love to have a shrink-wrapped version, I’m not going to pay $500 for it.”

Other users point out that companies should make their backlog of games available through platforms like Steam to prevent high prices in the future. Meanwhile, other users call Web of Shadows “overrated” due to its glitches. Some users still find joy in its web-swinging mechanics and combat system, however.

There is also speculation that Web of Shadows’ delisting may be due to licensing issues similar to the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 game. Another user also comments that the upcoming release of Spider-Man 2 may have increased interest in the game.

“Spider-Man 2 hasn’t even been released yet and people are selling this for $500,” one user writes. Another user comments, “The amount of people who played this game was probably a fraction of those who played Spider-Man 2.”

Another user jokingly suggests that the high price is due to brain damage or a concussion. Meanwhile, other users suggest jailbreaking a PS3 to download games instead of paying high prices. One user calls Web of Shadows “overrated,” but other users call it one of the most glitchy games they have played.
