Finding the Witcher Contract Notice for 'Dragon'
To begin the Witcher contract: Dragon, you must find the contract notice or speak to the client. Both can be found in the town of Fyresdal on Ard Skellig. The notice board is located to the left of the large doors at the entrance of the town. Read the Contract: Dragon notice and then proceed to speak with Vagn, the village elder in Fyresdal.
Talking to Vagn about the Dragon
As you approach Vagn, you'll notice that he is speaking with a woman named Karli, who is grieving over the deaths of her two sons. They were killed by the supposed dragon, and she wants it eliminated in revenge. Negotiate your pay with Vagn or offer to do the job for free.
Slaying the Forktail in the Witcher Contract: Dragon
Regardless of your pay agreement, you'll be tasked with investigating the bodies of the two men killed by the dragon. They are being kept in a nearby house where Karli is grieving. After inspecting the corpses, Geralt will discover that they lack burn marks typically associated with a dragon's fire breath. Additionally, the dragon lacks the strength to lift the men's bodies, a fact that Karli ignores due to her grief.
Leaving the house, you'll need to head out of town to the search area. Follow the nearby path that leads to a large lake, and examine the dead cow covered in claw marks. Geralt will note that the dragon lacks the strength to lift the beast, similar to the men's bodies.
Following the trail of blood, Geralt will discover a Forktail's nest with a dead dog and goose. This monster is likely the true culprit. You now have your answer, but you still need to obtain a goat for bait.
Obtaining the Goat for the Dragon
The elder will provide you with the goat needed for bait. However, getting the goat out of Fyresdal poses a challenge due to the town's cliff location. To overcome this, simply appear at the edge of the goat's vision to nudge it in the right direction. Repeat this process until the goat is near the nest.
Defeating the Forktail in the Witcher Contract: Dragon
Once the goat is near the nest, the Forktail will swoop down and kill it. Prepare for battle, being cautious of the monster's poisonous tail, sharp talons, and teeth. You can use the Golden Oriole potion to render the tail's poison ineffective. Parrying the Forktail's bite is an option, but dodging is generally more effective. Use a crossbow bolt, Grapeshot bomb, Aard sign, or melee attacks to bring the Forktail down to the ground and defeat it.
Claiming the Reward for Slaying the Dragon
After slaying the Forktail, loot its body for a trophy. Return to Fyresdal to claim your reward. You'll have a final choice to make: telling the elder it was a dragon or revealing the truth. Choose wisely, as telling the elder it was a dragon will earn you the full reward, while telling the truth will only result in half.
