The Witcher 3: Face Me If You Dare Side Quest

Wondering what the The Witcher 3: Face Me If You Dare side quest is? Found across Velen and Novigrad, The Witcher 3: Face Me If You Dare sees our hero duel a poor knight for the honor of a honey-tongued Maid Bilberry.

It’s said that through time immemorial, men have done stupid things in the name of one woman or another. The Siege of Troy is an oft-cited example, where men fought and died so that their leader could be with a beautiful woman. Whether or not you consider that worthy of remembrance is up to you, but Ronvid of Small Marsh from The Witcher 3 – or at least the legend of him – won’t be remembered quite so fondly.

What is the Face Me If You Dare side quest?

Eventually, you’ll find this man in the quest Face Me If You Dare, taking place across Velen and Novigrad. Throughout, Ronvid tries to duel Geralt for the honor of the Maid Bilberry to predictably embarrassing results.

You can find a poorly-dressed knight, Ronvid of Small Marsh, southeast of Crow’s Perch. As you pass by, he’ll challenge Geralt to a duel, declaring that he will slay a hundred knights in his maid’s honor (though he only seems to have fought one). He is armed with a single sword and, while he has some experience as a fighter, he’s no match even for the beginner difficulty that Geralt has at the start of the game.

Despite being outmatched, Ronvid will keep lunging at Geralt until he takes a few hits. At this point, he will surrender and beg for his life. Geralt's response (by default, Aard) won’t matter and Ronvid will flee, realizing he hasn’t got a hope of actually besting Geralt.

Ronvid will spend several days licking his wounds before reappearing outside Novigrad by the river near the Tretogor Gate Fast Travel point. This time, he’s got a shield though he’s still not any tougher. Once again, he’ll go down pretty easily and, likewise, once again, he’ll surrender. If Geralt is feeling particularly sadistic, he could knock Ronvid down, run away to allow him to recover, and repeat.

The sad truth is that Ronvid is now an embarrassment to his fellow knights and they’ll be reluctant to show him mercy if he decides to continue his foolish dueling. This also means that, as Geralt leaves this area, he may encounter Sir Cherrystone, who will attack if he gets too close. Defeating Cherrystone isn’t much of a challenge, but Geralt is better off going down to their level and fighting in the Novigrad Graveyard rather than accepting a duel.

The field near the Tretogor Gate Fast Travel point also contains some squirrels to hunt, but if Geralt heads deeper into Novigrad, Ronvid and Cherrystone will head inside the city to avoid any embarrassment, and Geralt won’t be able to find them.
