The Witcher 3 Graphics Overhaul 2
A lot of people are saying The Witcher 3 looks even better now than it did in the past, but that’s not a statement you can make without getting flak. The visual update for the third game in the series really is impressive, but saying it even compares to modern games falls under a lot of assumptions, opinions, and arguments, especially when you’re talking about games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Fallout 4 that have arguably changed the industry.
Following the release of The Witcher 3 Graphics Overhaul 2, players have been sharing their thoughts on the Witcher 3 Steam page. Some are expressing disappointment that the nude mod accidentally included in the update has been removed, while others are just blown away by how great the game looks after all these years.
“Truly incredible how polished this game turned out to be,” one user writes. “Even for a game released in 2015, it still manages to look great,” another adds. But of course, there are those who disagree, because that’s how the internet works. “Games in the last generation have aged just as well, if not better,” one user responds.
“I’d like to see anyone come up with a list of games that have held up as well in the past 10 years,” they continue. “I dare you.” There are plenty of examples that come up in the thread, including Dragon Age Inquisition, Metro Exodus, Tomb Raider, and Bloodborne.
There are also plenty of people who think games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and A Plague Tale: Requiem look better than The Witcher 3, even though I don’t think I can really compare the graphics of an open-world game to a more linear experience. There are also some PlayStation exclusives that I would have loved to see in the thread, as I think they showcase the full graphical power of the console.
“Not all exclusives hold up (or are exclusives) and it’s all about personal taste,” one user responds. “I’d also love to see a list of games that are better than Fortnite,” another replies. I’m not sure how Fortnite compares to The Witcher 3 in terms of graphics, but I do know that both games are blowing up right now.
If you ask me, I say graphics don’t matter and that gameplay reigns supreme. However, I do acknowledge the graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2 and agree that it and The Witcher 3 are exceptional. I don’t think they’re better than everything else out there, but they are exceptional in their own right.
