The Witcher 3: "The Price of Passage"

Have you ever wondered what happens if you choose to pay or not pay a bribe to the guards in The Witcher 3's side quest, "The Price of Passage"? This intriguing quest takes a surprising turn when you approach the city gates of Oxenfurt, resulting in unexpected consequences.

The quest, "The Price of Passage," becomes available after you deal with the monster in the contract titled "The Oxenfurt Drunk" and walk through the archway north of the Oxenfurt Harbor Fast Travel point. At the city gates, the guards demand a payment of 50 crowns, claiming it's a war tax. However, it's more likely an attempt to extort travelers. But what happens if you choose to pay the bribe?

Choosing to Pay the Guards

If you decide to pay the guards, you will be allowed to pass through without any trouble. Later, you can find the guards at Novigrad Gate, where they will ask for 100 crowns. However, extorting civilians is an offense, and the guards will face punishment from their commander. Several days later, the guards will seek revenge on Geralt east of Novigrad Gate.

Paying the Guards a Second Time

If you pay the guards a second time, the issue will be resolved peacefully.

Deceiving the Guards with the Axii Sign

If you have the Delusion skill at level one, you can use the Axii sign to deceive the guards and make them leave you alone.

Engaging in a Fistfight with the Guards

If you choose to fight the guards, they will attack you. However, killing them will have no consequences.

After dealing with the guards, the quest will come to an end. "The Price of Passage" adds an interesting dynamic to The Witcher 3's world, shedding light on the potential for corruption within the military. It serves as a reminder that choices have consequences, and there is no right answer to this moral dilemma. This quest showcases the significance of the decisions players make in the Open-world game, further enhancing the captivating experience that makes The Witcher 3 so special.
