Finding Shadowheart’s Parents in Baldur's Gate 3

Finding Shadowheart’s parents in Baldur’s Gate 3 is an emotional affair. Her very existence is a surprise to you at first, but you learn that she was born in Athkatla, and her parents were slain by drow during one of their raids. She was then taken in by Shar, who gave her a new life in return for her service.

However, things took a turn for the worst as Shadowheart’s parents were captured by the Justiciars and subjected to eternal torment. Your choices in Baldur’s Gate 3 are simple – kill the Justiciars and free them, or allow them to continue their torment under Shar’s control. Whatever you choose, you’ll have to deal with the consequences of your decision, so here’s how to find Shadowheart’s parents in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Kill Shadowheart’s Parents

If you choose to kill Shadowheart’s parents, you’ll gain immense power under Shar, and you’ll also be able to control the remaining Justiciars. On the downside, Shadowheart’s memory will be wiped once again, and there will be no one to join you in the final battle against the Revenant King.

Moonmotes becomes Shadowheart’s new name, and she’s relieved of Shar’s burden. She has no memories of her past, and she will become a trustworthy companion. On the other hand, she has to live with the guilt of killing her own parents.

Save Shadowheart’s Parents

If you choose to save Shadowheart’s parents, things will get complicated as Shar takes offense and wants to punish her. Shadowheart will have to endure a lifetime of guilt, and she may also lose her companions – if you choose to romance her, she will reveal her guilt and offer you a place with her instead.

Regardless of what you do, Emmeline suffers from memory loss and declining health. Despite this, she provides the same comfort that she did when Shadowheart was a child, and Arnell is still a wise old dog with plenty of experience to share. Together, they have a marked improvement on Shadowheart’s mood, especially if you romance her.

The drawback is that her curse continues to torment her, and it dampens her ability to feel and express emotions. It’s likely that the Justiciars will continue to torment her even after Arnell’s passing, and there’s no telling how long her eternal torment will last.

If you romance Shadowheart, she settles down near her parents in a quiet home. She can weather the pain as long as she has you and her parents. However, there’s ambiguity about how she will endure centuries of torture after her parents’ passing.
