Control’s Creepy Enemy: A Unique and Unsettling Experience

Control’s creepiest enemy isn’t even an enemy at all. The game’s janitor is just an old man in a jumpsuit, pushing a broom while muttering to himself. But Control’s enemies, which look like geometric shapes constantly failing to take a consistent form, are so strange, so abstract, that they’re downright terrifying.

User @SeriousNolan starts a thread about the game’s enemies, asking “Which Control enemy do you think is the creepiest?” Many people reply with their own personal experiences with the game’s enemies, describing them as “living whirlwinds of pain.”

“I just watched a YouTuber play it, and the quarry section of that game is legitimately terrifying,” one user replies. “The way those things just come out of nowhere, and the music gets this weird pulse to it as they scream at you.”

“Any of the enemies that can kill you,” another replies. “Those are the ones that made me feel the most fear.”

While others riff on the janitor, describing him as a Nordic god (“he’s Odin, he’s on vacation”) or suggesting that he’s a member of the game’s occultist conspiracy (“he knows too much”), others get more serious.

“I just want to know what they are,” one replies. “What do they represent? Are they even enemies?” Some even claim to have discovered glitches that cause the enemies to stop attacking and ignore the player.

“They’re entities that don’t belong in our universe,” another replies. “They are living whirlwinds of pain. They’re just trying to make sense of their existence, and they don’t know how to do it.”

“Control and The House of Leaves is a good combo,” another replies.

The responses range from light-hearted jokes about the janitor to serious discussions about the game’s enemies and the game itself. Some describe the game as “trippy” and “weird,” while others mention the difficulty of the game, especially the second-to-last boss and the game’s difficult ending.

“Control is an amazing game but the combat is so repetitive,” one replies. “I’m still enjoying it though.” Another replies that they’re enjoying it as well, especially the flying and dashing abilities.

Still, others describe the game as boring and repetitive, especially due to the combat mechanics. “Control is a good game, but I honestly don’t understand how people are having fun with it,” one replies. “It’s not even that hard, but it’s so repetitive.”

“It’s okay. I’m not having fun,” another replies. “I’m just very determined to beat it.”
