The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Grandpa

Are you wondering how The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Grandpa works? The decrepit man is stuck in a rocking chair in front of the fireplace, but don’t let his apparent frailty fool you. Grandpa is no laughing matter, so here’s how he supports the Family and hinders you as a Victim as you try to make a break for freedom.

Though Grandpa is technically a playable character, he’s not directly controllable. Instead, he supports the other playable character, the Family, by hindering any Victims trying to escape the Texas Chainsaw Massacre house. The family needs to feed Grandpa blood to level him up, with the number of blood vials collected displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. You can collect blood from the numerous buckets around the house or by killing another character, so be sure to feed Grandpa after a kill.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Grandpa abilities

Each time you feed Grandpa, he levels up to a maximum of three. You can choose the abilities he gains on leveling up, though it’s worth noting that he always gains an ability in three different categories. Pay attention to Grandpa’s level as a Victim; a higher level means you’re in danger, as he can track you more effectively and illuminate your hiding spots.

Here are the abilities Grandpa can attain in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre:

  • Grandpa’s Sonar is arguably the most important ability for the Family, as it helps them track down any pesky Victims trying to hide. Keep an eye on Grandpa’s level and any changes to his tone to determine whether a hiding spot is still safe. If he starts looking around and calling out, it’s time to move.
  • Grandpa’s other abilities improve with each level gained, so these may be more beneficial depending on your playstyle. The flashlight is a nice perk, as it allows you to locate items and weapons within a short radius, and the bone scrap is a great way to deal a little damage to an aggressive Victim.

As a Victim, you can counter Grandpa by attacking him with a bone scrap to temporarily immobilize him. This disables his abilities and makes him easier to kill, so it’s a good tactic if you’re being pursued. Try to attack him from behind to minimize the amount of time he’s on screen, as that can be a bit of a shock if you’re not expecting him.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Grandpa hard counter

Be cautious of any Family members with the “You’ll Pay For That” perk, as they will seek out and attack the nearest Victim after being attacked themselves. This can be a game-changer if you’re trying to attack Grandpa, as they could easily turn on you instead.

Since Grandpa is the closest thing you have to an enemy in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, it’s in your best interest to avoid direct confrontation. If you’re discovered by the Family, try to hide in a closet or under a bed to wait for the coast to clear. It’s also a good idea to stay as quiet as possible, as the slightest noise can draw the attention of other characters.

Since the Family needs to spend time collecting blood from Grandpa to level him up, slowing their blood collection will hinder his leveling. This can be difficult to manage while trying to escape as a Victim, as you might need to use offensive tactics to keep the Family away. If you can’t avoid fighting back, try to attack the Family members who have the “You’ll Pay For That” perk to draw their attention.

Since Grandpa is always in the same location, the best thing a Victim can do is stay close to him to defend against offensive Victims. If you can keep the Family away from Grandpa, they won’t be able to feed him, which is your main objective as a Victim.

Attacking Grandpa can be a game-changing move for Victims, as it immobilizes him temporarily and disables his abilities. Use this to your advantage by making a run for it while he’s immobilized, hopefully putting some distance between you and the Family. Grandpa’s immobilization can also be a good way to get the Family’s attention if you’re trying to lure them away from him, as they’ll come to his aid if he’s in trouble.
