The latest Fortnite chapter has brought a fresh twist to the gameplay experience, with new challenges requiring you to find holographic chests and safes scattered across the map. These colourful collectibles contain valuable loot, and are worth the effort of searching for them – so here’s where to find them, and the best tips for maximising your chances of finding one.
Fortnite’s Holo Chests and Safes are essentially the same thing, but their contents and how you locate them differ. Holo Chests drop valuable loot when destroyed, and you can locate them by listening for a distinct sound when nearby – but Fortnite has yet to explain how you locate safes.
Safes are static, and require you to interact with them to open. They’ll contain armour, weapons, healing items, and even a llama. Fortnite marks them on your map in the same way as chests, but we’ve yet to find a way to locate them without interacting with them.

There are many different types of Fortnite collectibles, and Holo Chests are among them – but as we’ve yet to find a method to locate safes, we haven’t included them here.
Here are some of the best places to start your search for Holo Chests in Fortnite, including landmarks and named POIs. The Stark Industries and Doom’s Domain areas are particularly known for their high concentration of these chests, so you may want to start there.
