Best Gamecube Games

Looking for the best Gamecube games? Rediscovering the purple powerhouse of yesteryear has been a blast for us here at PC Game Spotlight, and Luigi’s Mansion is certainly not to be missed if you’re just getting started. But with so many options, we’re overwhelmed.

There’s a reason why the Gamecube is the underdog of the generation: the Xbox was the most powerful console, and the Gamecube was marginally more powerful than the PS2. But the Gamecube’s library is diverse, colourful, and full of characters, and you can now play it on a better setup with better cables – it’s a recipe for a great gaming experience.

We’ve played it all, and we’re here to share our thoughts on the best Gamecube games. Whether you’re looking for a horror game, a party game, or even a classic Nintendo game, there’s something for everyone on the little purple box.

Here are the best Gamecube games:

Super Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime is so highly recommended, regardless of whether it’s your first Metroid game. It’s a beautiful first-person adventure that turns a series that’s traditionally 2D into a fully realised world.

With exploration, platforming, and combat, Metroid Prime offers a lot to fans, but it’s not as simple as that. There’s a story to uncover, and a mystery to solve, as Samus reaches the Pirate Homeworld and takes on the Omega Metroid. It’s a thrilling campaign that’s just the right length, and it’s one of the most impressive games on the Gamecube.

Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario Sunshine is heralded as a masterpiece by many, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a 3D platformer that uses the power of the Gamecube to create something unique.

Shifting away from the side-on perspective of the previous Mario games, Super Mario Sunshine offers a more open-world feel, with a wider range of environments. Each island has its own unique theme, and all of it is gorgeous. The gameplay, of course, is fantastic, and the challenge of finding all the secret levels means you’ll be playing Super Mario Sunshine for a long time, even after you beat the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Twilight Princess is one of the best Zelda games ever made, and that’s just what some fans say. Others think it’s the worst 3D Zelda game because of its art style, music, and gameplay. It’s a divisive entry, but that’s what makes it so great.

For those in the former camp, you’ll be delighted by the vast world, memorable characters, and the many dungeons. The story of a wolf-transforming Link and a girl named Midna is beautifully told, and the game’s mechanics (dodging, combat, and more) are wonderful. Any Gamecube list needs this Zelda game, just don’t forget to play Twilight Princess HD.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

The Wind Waker is another Zelda game that’s so beloved that any Gamecube list needs to include it. It’s a classic, one that’s beloved for its mechanics, story, and atmosphere.

It’s another divisive Zelda game, though, and some think this game is too cartoony and childish compared to the other games in the series. Others think it’s one of the best, and it’s certainly colourful. If you’re not sure which side of the fence you’re on, we’ve created a list of The Wind Waker pros and cons to help you decide.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem is an underrated horror game that deserves to be played by more people. While it’s not quite as scary as it once was, it’s still a game that’ll keep you on edge, and it’s perfect for spooky October gaming sessions.

You play as Alexandra Gallant, a student at the Maine Academy, who is facing her final test at the hands of the demonic Ancients. It’s a game that’s as much about solving puzzles as it is about surviving. Each character has a different gameplay mechanic, and your sanity level is constantly dropping, making you question what’s real and what’s not. It’s a unique horror game with a strong story, and each playthrough is different because of the game’s many possible outcomes.

Pokemon Colosseum

Colosseum is one of the best Pokemon games, and it’s certainly the one you should play if you’re branching out from the main games. It’s a different gameplay experience to the other entries because it’s a role-playing game, and you’re just playing a trainer instead of a Pokemon Master.

Instead of collecting all the Pokemon yourself, you’ll be tasked with collecting a group of Shadow Pokemon to enter battle arenas. It’s not just the gameplay that’s different; the story is, too. Colosseum features an original cast of characters, and while it’s not a mainline Pokemon game, it’s a must-play entry.

Pikmin

Pikmin is a great game to play on the Gamecube, or any Nintendo console, as it’s a cute and charming RTS game. It’s not as complicated as most RTS games, but it still offers a rewarding experience.
