Resident Evil Village: The Most Iconic Characters

Looking for a list of the most iconic characters in Resident Evil Village? There are plenty of reasons why Resident Evil Village has been such a huge hit. Besides the obvious factors like the use of the RE Engine and its commitment to the character-driven narrative style that the series is famous for, it also helps to have a cast of characters worth investing time in.

There are several memorable characters in Resident Evil Village, each with their own distinctive looks and personality traits. Some, like Lady Dimitrescu and Chris Redfield, only make a short appearance, but their designs and impacts on the story make them memorable despite their limited time on-screen. Others, like Mother Miranda and Rose Winters, have much more substantial roles in the plot and are guaranteed to have a lasting impression on you even after you’ve finished the game.

Chris Redfield

We’re not even going to sugarcoat it; Chris is one of the most boring characters in the entire series. Whether he’s shooting fish in a barrel or punching boulders, we’ve probably seen it all before. Resident Evil 7 started the process of giving Chris some more personality, but Village takes things even further by making him more emotional and vulnerable.

Chris will never be a dull, wooden character again after his journey in Resident Evil Village ends. Sure, he’s still a bit of a stoic and is often lacking any real emotional insight, but he’s also a veteran officer trying to come to terms and solve everything that’s happening. You’re awarded with a lingering sense of loss by the time you reach the closing credits, because you’ve just journeyed with a thoroughly developed, three-dimensional character.

Mother Miranda

Developer Capcom nails the atmosphere of desperation in the final fight against Mother Miranda. There’s something morbid and yet almost beautiful about her design. She’s shrouded in darkness, while her face looks distorted and deformed by her overwhelming hatred. Her inherently evil nature comes across loud and clear in the final stages, both in gameplay and in the twisted monologues designed to taunt the player at regular intervals. She’s a worthy Resident Evil villain – some might even argue that she’s the best in the series so far.

Rose Winters

It’s about time Rose got her chance to shine. Granted, her appearance in Shadows of Rose is largely just a lengthy exposition dump about her life, but she still gets some time in the limelight. Resident Evil 7 told us a little about her troubled past and how she lost her arms in the emotional rollercoaster that was the Santa Cruz Nightmare, but this DLC allows us to discover more about her backstory.

Although we never get the chance to meet the mother and father that Rose was left with, the narrative provides satisfying answers to questions raised after the base game. We learn more about Rose’s powers and her mysterious healing factor – it’s enough to peak our curiosity and lay the groundwork for an exceptional game starring Rose. Consider it her redemption after being cornered by the Demogears in Resident Evil 7.

The Duke

Compared to previous Resident Evil games, there’s an obvious lack of wacky, colorful characters. Sure, there are some lighthearted moments in the cutscenes, but Fear 2 twists the series’ inherent supernatural tone with a sense of grotesque realism.

The Duke is undoubtedly the most memorable of the colorful characters – the Merchant from Resident Evil 4 comes to mind due to his type of service. The vile, greedy merchant from Resident Evil 4 rears his ugly head once again in the shape of The Duke, and his equally needy wife. Notable for filthy, low-tier services like exchanging Documents for ammo, The Duke is a grotesque and unsettling presence in the village. He also provides a few lighthearted moments, including the option to exchange a useless Badge for a joke. It’s hard to imagine Resident Evil without The Duke now.

Donna Beneviento

The Resident Evil series has always been known for its form of psychological Horror inspired by Japanese horror movies, and the Shadows of Rose DLC serves as an excellent example. The entire ordeal with Angie is claustrophobic, confusing, and entirely terrifying.

Donna Beneviento tells a chilling tale throughout her stay at Woodside, but the real horror begins when Angie leaves the dining room table and starts following you around. As long as Angie is nearby, you’ll hear the incessant, childlike humming of the surrogate daughter that Donna left behind. Later on, you’ll hear her
