Unfounded rumors surrounding Pokimane's potential involvement with Kick

Unfounded rumors surrounding Pokimane joining Kick are met with derision and mockery after the Twitch star makes a remark during a popular live stream at the Cuphead Youtuber meeting, which has sparked heated discussion within the streaming community.

Speaking in a segment about upcoming changes to the streaming landscape, Pokimane dismisses Kick as “cringe,” leading fellow streamer Corinna Kopf to slam the Twitch star’s comments as “self-righteous,” and a representative from VBK to push back against the “misinformation” shared about their company.

In a viral live stream from earlier today, Pokimane addresses rumblings about her potential involvement with Kick after fans noticed the potential for her account to be linked to the controversial platform.

“Now, here’s a thing,” the popular Twitch streamer says. “I’ve heard all this speculation about if I was actually gonna join Kick or not, which is just not true, by the way. You don’t believe all the stuff in the stream. I think Kick is cringe as well, of course.” The Twitch star’s remarks prompted criticism from fellow creator Corinna Kopf, who hit back at Pokimane’s comments with a dose of snark.

“And if you don’t care about Twitch or think it’s ‘cringe,’ then don’t stream on it and go live on Kick where your ‘yassss everyone’ community can give you likes and plaudits,” Kopf remarks. “It would be ‘cringe’ on any platform as well but it’s especially cringe for a community that had the opportunity to engage with that platform but instead wanted to segregate itself on Kick. It’s a platform with no features no streamers wanted, so I don’t understand why it even was started.”

The ongoing debate between Twitch and newcomer platform Kick has led to a significant amount of division among streamers and viewers, with some throwing their full weight behind the former and others pushing with equal vehemence for the latter.

Pokimane’s dismissal of Kick simply as “cringe,” then, represents what some may see as an apathetic attitude toward the perspective of those in the Twitch community who are firmly on the other side of the ongoing debate. Whether or not that’s Pokimane’s intention, though, likely depends on which side of the Twitch vs Kick battle line you fall, and what your view of her and her content is.

Corinna Kopf’s criticism of Pokimane, then, is a strong example of what many see as the rampant tension between creators in the online streaming world, where there’s seemingly either room for everyone, or not enough room for everyone.

Regardless, Pokimane’s comments about Kick in general and her potential joining the platform in particular have added a new wrinkle to the evolving and expanding Twitch vs Kick debate, with both platforms drawing their ardent supporters and detractors within the streaming community.
