Dr Disrespect's Update on Streaming Future and Kick
Dr Disrespect, the charismatic and often hilarious streamer behind one of the most popular gaming personas on Twitch, recently offered an update on his streaming future. In an interview on the two-year anniversary of his infamous Twitch ban, the personality sheds light on why he hasn't signed with Kick, the new streaming platform that's rapidly gaining ground in the industry. The Dr Disrespect ban, which came in the wake of a controversial Twitch stream involving an elderly woman, was a major blow to the personality's streaming career. While he has since bounced back with a successful Twitch career on other platforms, many fans wondered why he hadn't joined Kick, the streaming platform that has been grabbing the attention of streamers and fans alike. In a recent interview with The Esports Observer, Dr Disrespect shares his thoughts on the matter, and it's got a lot to do with finding the right fit. "I've been approached by several platforms," he says, "and I'm not going to name names, but Kick is one of them." However, he continues, "it's not just about going and getting a check. It's about finding the right fit." He adds, "I don't want to be a guy that's just put on a platform. I'm not just going to jump on any platform. I'm going to do this for a long time, and I want to build a brand." Dr Disrespect also touches on creative freedom, clearly a very important factor for the streamer, and one that works against Kick's strict rules and guidelines. "I'm not locked into Twitch, I'm not locked into YouTube. I feel like I'm building a company, a very organic, homegrown thing. So I want to be able to build it where I can create my own ideas and execute them." He adds, "I'm not looking for a huge check, I'm looking for creative freedom." Dr Disrespect also addresses the financial aspect, saying, "I don't need a big check, I don't need a big guarantee, none of that." He explains, "I have this mentality that I'm in this for the long run. You see what's happening with esports." He continues, "I know this is going to be a big deal. That's why I'm not in a hurry, that's why I'm not desperate. I'm not trying to make a check, I'm making a legacy." Keep an eye on this one, folks.
