When you first start fishing in Palia, you’ll be taught the basics of casting and the health bar of your Rod. The most important thing to understand right off the bat is that your Rod’s health is important, as you’ll need to upgrade your rod at Einar’s shop and purchase health upgrades in order to catch certain fish.

How to upgrade your rod in Palia

To upgrade your rod, head to Einar’s shop in the Palia Marketplace. There is a fishing rod upgrade in the shop window, but you need to purchase the Health Upgrades first.

Each upgrade requires a specific amount of gold, with the last upgrade costing a whopping 120,000 gold. If you’re serious about fishing, we recommend saving up gold from quests and daily tasks to ensure you can catch the rarest fish available.

How to catch rare items

Catching rare fish isn’t the only thing you can do while fishing in Palia; you can also catch rare items while fishing, such as the Palia Hairpin and Ancient Stone.

How to obtain bait

Catching rare fish is only half of the battle, as you also need bait to attract them. Baits are used in conjunction with your fishing rods, and each bait attracts different fish. For example, you can use the Arowana Baits to attract Arowana, while the Snailfish Bait is used to attract Snailfish.
