Project Zomboid Tips for Survival
Trying to survive in Project Zomboid can be a daunting task for new players. With relentless hordes of the undead closing in, it’s hard not to panic, but our Project Zomboid tips will ensure you don’t make any rookie mistakes when starting out in the Survival game.
Project Zomboid is a tough game. Death comes quickly, and even the most skilled players can be caught off guard by a horde of zombies. Learning how to stay calm and survive the Apocalypse is key, but that means ditching your guns and focusing on melee weapons instead – trust us, you won’t regret it.
Finding a safe place to rest, eat, and drink is also crucial to your survival, and you’ll quickly learn that you need to get out of the city to avoid the horde. We’ve got all the tips you need to get started in Project Zomboid, so read on to avoid death by mod, find shelter, and make the most of your time in Willamette.
Use the Project Zomboid Map to locate safe areas in your starting town
Project Zomboid is a big game, and getting out of the city can be a challenge at first. Thankfully, the Life and Living channel on TV can be used to your advantage, as learning how to make items and craft weapons is crucial to your survival. To locate safe areas in your starting town, use the Project Zomboid map and the icons on the map to find safehouses and supermarket locations.
Run at a steady pace instead of running
Project Zomboid is all about resource management, so running everywhere is a bad idea and wastes energy. Instead, walk at a steady pace to conserve your stamina and health. Just make sure to avoid sprinting, as this uses up stamina, and you could end up being swarmed by zombies.
Adjust your Aim Outline setting
We’d also recommend adjusting the Aim Outline setting, which can improve melee combat when dealing with zombies. By increasing the outline, you can see exactly where you’re striking, which is especially useful when dealing with multiple zombies. Turning this setting up also helps when pushing zombies away, as you can see where they’re going to land.
Know your limits
Surviving in the apocalypse is all about knowing your limits, so listen to your character when they say they don’t want to do something. If you’re feeling invincible after getting some new weapons, don’t go into a supermarket full of zombies alone. Listen to your character and play it safe, as you can always come back for those zombies later.
Sheets and ripped sheets are valuable items
Sheets aren’t just for sleeping in, as these valuable items can be used for multiple purposes. Hang sheets on windows to give your safehouse extra protection against zombies, or use them as a bag, which you can fill with items and then tie off. Ripped sheets also come in handy, as they’re perfect for makeshift bandages, which can keep you alive in a tight spot.
Keep lights off and curtains closed
Keeping your safehouse dark and quiet is essential, as keeping the lights on and curtains open will draw zombies to your location. The undead don’t need to be able to see you to find you, so keep the lights off and curtains closed at all times. This is especially important at night, so go to bed and turn off the lights as soon as it hits 17:00 in-game.
Progress in Project Zomboid takes time
Don’t expect to make it out of your starting town in the first few hours of Project Zomboid. In fact, don’t expect to make it out in the first few days either. Progress in Project Zomboid takes time, so take things slowly and prioritize survival. Once you’re out of the city and have a roof over your head, you can start exploring different areas of the map, but it’s important to keep your travels to a minimum while you’re still learning the ropes.
