Minecraft Beacons: Crafting and Usage

Minecraft beacons are powerful endgame items that serve as location markers and provide status effects within a specific area. These effects can enhance player-versus-player battles, multiplayer sessions, as well as mining, exploration, and combat challenges.

While beacons can mark spots for personal benefit, they can also be shared with friends by projecting a beacon ray from the top of a pyramid foundation. These rays can be customized by selecting specific powers and adjusting layer sizes in a six-beacon construction. Here's all you need to know about Minecraft beacons, including crafting, the Wither boss fight for a Nether star, and more.

Crafting a Minecraft Beacon

To craft a beacon block, gather glass, obsidian, and a Nether star. Obtaining a Nether star requires defeating the challenging and time-consuming Wither boss. Therefore, it is highly recommended to prepare a bedrock arena for the Wither fight.

Building a Wither Skeleton Farm is crucial for obtaining the four Wither Skeleton heads needed to summon the Wither. These heads can be found in Nether fortresses or obtained through a Wither Skeleton Farm.

Summoning the Wither

To summon the Wither, create a T-shaped structure using soul sand. Place the Wither Skeleton heads on top as the two points of the T.

The Wither will hover over the soul sand and launch damaging Nether tentacles. Keep your distance and attack the Wither whenever possible. When the Wither takes damage, it will fall to the ground, allowing for more damage to be inflicted. Repeat this process until the Wither is defeated.

Constructing a Beacon Base

To place a beacon, build a pyramid-shaped foundation using full blocks of ores. The size of the beacon base determines its power.

A three-by-three layer provides primary status effects, while a four-layer pyramid enables secondary effects. The available beacon powers include strength, speed, haste, resistance, jump boost, and regeneration. The range of the beacon also depends on its size, with a four-layer pyramid having the furthest reach. When built at bedrock, the beacon's range extends infinitely upwards.

For wider coverage, you can space out multiple beacons or place them on the same foundation with minor adjustments to size and shape.

Here is a list of materials required to build a beacon:

You can also assign a color to the beacon ray by placing a dyed glass block on top of the beacon block.

That's all you need to know about Minecraft beacons. If you decide to create a Wither boss fight arena, consider placing it in a desert biome for optimal spawning conditions.
